A new documentary about the ‘Making A Murderer’ case is coming and it sounds very interesting

It’s been – I think – 30 years since Making A Murderer first aired, and you best believe that people still care about it. There’s not a day that goes by without me shouting “Making A Murderer” through a rolled up newspaper at whoever will listen. So you better recognise that I’ll be watching the next series on Netflix, when it eventually gets here, because it’s entirely detrimental to my enjoyment of this life that I don’t know whether Steven Avery is guilty or not.

So I guess I’ll have to watch the latest documentary surrounding the case, which is aiming to tackle it from a different angle, and will be completely separate from Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi’s original doc.

The new documentary will be entitled Convicting A Murderer and will focus on the ‘baddies’, essentially. So filmmaker Shawn Rech (A Murder in the Park) will be working with high-pitched attorney Ken Kratz, lead investigator Tom Fassbender, and a load of other players from the other side of the fence. The evil side. Maybe.

Rech said of the upcoming doc:

“When Making A Murderer was produced, many on the law enforcement side of the story could not, or would not, participate in the series, which resulted in a one-sided analysis of the case.

“This docuseries will examine the case and the allegations of police wrongdoing from a broader perspective. It will also share with viewers the traumatic effects of being found guilty and vilified in the court of public opinion.”

So, it’s essentially Grey to Fifty Shades of Grey, to compare it to a horrendously incompatible work. Still, it might be quite worthwhile seeing the case from a different angle, because the original Making A Murderer was very one-sided, and could have easily held back important details from our gormless, easily malleable eyes. Should be quite interesting.
