Disney releases movie schedule through to 2027

If you thought 2019 is Disney’s year, with everything from Avengers: Endgame to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, just wait until you see what else is coming out.

Disney has released its huge movie schedule for its biggest blockbusters through until 2027, and we’re getting four sequels to Avatar, more Star Wars movies and even a Bob’s Burgers movie from Fox (hooray!).

According to the schedule, we still have quite a few big releases for Disney’s summer slate of flicks this year, including Disney’s Aladdin on May 24, Fox’s Dark Phoenix on June 7, Pixar’s Toy Story 4 on June 21 along with Disney’s The Lion King on July 19.

That’s not all, as to round off the year, audiences can look forward to the sequel to Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent, named Mistress of Evil, on October 18 along with Disney Animation’s Frozen 2 on November 22. Last but not least, we’re getting the final episode of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20.

Or so we believe it’s the final episode, as there are two untitled Star Wars movies being released in 2022 and 2024. Will it be a Boba Fett spin-off or something more? We’ll have to wait and see.

We’re also getting The New Mutants on April 3, 2020 and Artemis Fowl on May 29, 2020. They were supposed to come out this year, but patience is a virtue we suppose.

With Avengers and Star Wars coming to a close, Disney’s next big franchise seems to all be pinned on Avatar. It’s been a decade since James Cameron’s first hugely successful blockbuster, so we can’t wait to see what they do with the blue aliens from Pandora.

“We’re excited to put in place a robust and diverse slate that lays the foundation of our long-term strategy, bringing together a breadth of films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Fox, Fox Searchlight and Blue Sky Studios to create an extraordinary collection of cinematic experiences for audiences around the world,” said president of Theatrical Distribution Cathleen Taff.

“With a strong summer already in place, we are eager to carry that momentum forward over the coming years thanks to a creative wellspring of bold and imaginative stories coming from our world-class studios — including several new chapters of two revered franchises, Avatar and Star Wars.”

As for other movies just over the horizon, check out our thoughts on the new Sonic The Hedgehog trailer. It’s, erm, questionable.

We’re already feeling the hype.
