Much-loved comedy Gavin and Stacey to return
Fans of hit comedy Gavin and Stacey are in for a treat with the show set to return for a special Christmas episode this year.
The show will return for a one-off episode on Christmas Day, allowing viewers to catch up with characters such as Gavin, Stacey, Smithy, Nessa and Uncle Bryn, and find out what they’ve been up to in the time since we last saw them.
The show, which ran for three series’ between 2007 and 2010, tells the story of the title characters, who hail from Essex and Barry respectively and fell in love while talking on the phone every day at work.
Creators Corden, who plays Smithy, and Jones, who stars as Nessa, have spoken about their excitement at bringing the show back.
“Over the last 10 years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like. So, in secret, we took the plunge and wrote this one-hour special,” they said.
“We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again, and bringing the characters back together has been a joy. We’re so excited.”
Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman will all be returning to their respective roles for the one-off show, with fans delighted at the news of its comeback.
Over 10 million viewers tuned in for the last episode of the comedy, which aired on New Year’s Day in 2010.
Gavin and Stacey initially started out on BBC Three, eventually moving to BBC One due to its increasing popularity, and if the new episode is anywhere near as good as the previous shows, viewers are in for an absolute treat at Christmas. Viewers in the UAE should be able to see it on BBC First.
