The Lion King is now the highest-grossing ‘animated’ film ever
Move over Disney’s Frozen, you’re no longer the king of the box office (although you did have an impressive run).
Frozen was knocked off its throne after its six-year run, with a record of $1.276 billion. That’s an impressive number already, but there’s a new king in town.
The remake of the 1994 classic has delivered a global box office total of $1.334 billion – after it opened in Japan over the weekend.
It’s a win-win situation for Disney, although The Lion King 2019 has been labelled as a live-action remake before.
However, we all know these animals aren’t actually real, seeing how they talk and all. The film uses “photorealistic CGI”, so animation it is.
In ShortList Dubai’s review, we said it’s a “remake of the timeless classic doesn’t bring much, but it still has a lot of heart”. Check out the full review right here.
Whatever your thoughts are on the movie, there’s no denying how much of a hit its soundtrack is, seeing how many hits it got on Spotify.
