Star Trek Beyond (15)
Famously filmed in Dubai (or at least the parts of the movie where executive producer Jeffrey Chernov wanted to “represent the future”), Star Trek: Beyond is the third of the latest franchise of the adventures of the USS Enterprise. It sees Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Scotty (Simon Pegg) and Mr Spock (Zachary Quinto) and crew abandoning ship after an attack and dealing with unknown forces on a strange planet. The film is the final screen role of Anton Yelchin, who died last month.
In cinemas from July 21

The Conjuring 2 (18)
The Conjuring was credited with reinvigorating the horror genre when it was released in 2013, harvesting nearly $320 million in revenues from a budget of just $20 million. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back as the Mulder and Scully of the paranormal world, where they investigate the creepy goings on in a house in Enfield, England. Already harvesting positive reviews in the US, this offers old-school scares galore.
In cinemas from July 21

Central intelligence (PG)
Accepting Facebook friend requests from old schoolmates is a gamble, as Calvin Joyner (Kevin Hart) finds out. Once voted “Most Likely To Succeed” at high school, life plateaued and, 20 years on, a catch-up with chum Bob Stone (Dwayne Johnson) leads to a plan to capture a rogue secret agent before he sells the codes for the US’s satellite network. How? Who cares? It’s a buddy action comedy with plenty of killer lines. And Johnson is excellent.
In cinemas now

Alice Through The Looking Glass (PG)
Johnny Depp is back as the Mad Hatter and doing what he does best – dressing up and hamming it up – in the second reworking of a Lewis Carroll tale, although you might be hard-pressed to recognise much of the original in this gaudy version. Depp is again joined by Mia Wasikowska as Alice, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, with Helena Bonham Carter and Rhys Ifans offering cartoonish support.
In cinemas from July 21
