TRAILER: Mad Max: Fury Road

The 1980s Aussie franchise gets a makeover

It was one of the biggest movies in Australian cinema history and helped consolidate the reputation of a young man by the name of Mel Gibson. When it first burst over a red sand dune in 1979, Mad Max set the template for dystopian adventures and immediately spawned two bigger, brasher and bolder sequels, culminating in 1985's Beyond the Thunderdome.

The series is getting a modern makeover, complete with new lead in Tom Hardy, but the grime, dirt and customised vehicles all remain. And this is no commercial cash-in. The original director George Miller is again behind the lens.

Mad Max: Fury Road opens in cinemas across the UAE on May 14. Click here for listings.
