A male passenger was apprehended for allegedly harming an air hostess on board Indigo’s Dubai-Amritsar flight. The incident took place on the 13th of May Saturday. The accused was taken into custody by Punjab Police on Monday.
The passenger misbehaved with the flight attendant after she pleaded not to drink alcohol on the flight. Later when things got way out of hand the air hostess reported to the cabin crew’s notice. The crew members proceeded to report it to Amritsar’s Control room.
The Drunk man was arrested by Airport Station Officer
The accused was Rajinder Singh who comes from Kotli village of Jalandhar in the Northern state of Punjab in India. He was reported to have gotten into an intense quarrel with the cabin attendant and proceeded to molest her on Saturday.
On the complaint of the Assistant Security Manager of Indigo Airlines, a case was filed under sections 354 ( assault or criminal force to women with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been lodged against the accused at the Airport police station.
The complainant said that the passenger had started drinking alcohol on the flight. Even after the cabin crew gave several warnings the man would not back off from drinking and also started shouting at people. The accused also started shouting at the crew and touching their hands. He also claimed that he would offer a bribe to the police if any cases were reported against him. The complainant attached a list containing the names of witnesses along with the complaint.
Mr. Kirandeep Singh, the Airport Station House Officer (SHO) said that the accused not only drank on the flight but also attacked an air hostess and he was apprehended upon landing at the airport by the airport security and handed over to them. Mr. Singh said that the accused was sent to 14-day judicial custody after being presented in a local court.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 in the morning on board IndiGo flight 6E1428 from Dubai to Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport. The airline stated its full cooperation with authorities and will take necessary actions against the violent passenger.

It was just a few months ago, in January, Air India Airlines was fined rupees 1 million fine for not reporting 2 cases of uncouth passenger behavior mid-air on a Paris-Delhi flight on 6th December 2022. On that flight, one drunk passenger was caught smoking in the toilet, and another passenger relieved himself on a vacant seat and blanket of another passenger when she left for the lavatory.
In another incident in March 2022, Mumbai Police arrested 2 passengers flying from Dubai to Mumbai for throwing tantrums under the influence of alcohol. There have been a lot of repeated incidents reported about the misbehavior of passengers with and without the influence of alcohol and harming the flight attendants and cabin crew.
