Mohammed Bin Rashid’s space center gave the media representatives a chance to hear from the Emirati astronaut. More than 130 people consisting of local and international media take part in this edition of ‘Call with Space’.
This was an incredibly refreshing and unique experience for the media executives to engage in a conversation with Al Neyadi, where he shared mind-boggling facts and his own experience in space. Sultan Al Neyadi is currently involved in the International Space Station (ISS), marking another historical moment for the entire Arabian Peninsula.
Event Held On 12th April
The event happened on the 12th of April, Wednesday, starting off with a keynote from the Director General of Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, Salem Humaid Al Marri. Mr. Al Marri delivered insights on the development of the missions of the center and its plans for the future.
The Director General used this opportunity to bring to the notice of the attendees the importance of media in presenting and highlighting the stories of triumphs hard-earned by the UAE in space exploration and scientific research.
During this much anticipated live call, astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi talks about how much he has adjusted to his life outside Earth, after being onboard an ISS for more than 40 days. He further articulates the various scientific experiments he has conducted to date, including working on heart tissues, treatment for diabetes, and 3D printing of knee meniscus.
Sultan Al Neyadi also voices the importance of protecting this beautiful planet that we call home. He was mesmerized by the beauty of seeing our planet from space and used this occasion to bring out the significance of saving our habitat.
The officials of Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center used this opportunity to confess to the media about the updates and progress made on several new and ongoing projects. They remarked on the longest Arab space mission in history, The Emirates Lunar Mission, and other projects.
The officials also notified that ‘A Call with Space’ will now head to venues across other emirates in UAE. You can expect another event from this series, which is scheduled for May 2023.
This prestigious project of the United Arab Emirates, The UAE Astronaut Program, is one of several other projects supervised by MBRSC under the UAE National Space Program. Out of the 4022 candidates that applied for the UAE Astronaut Program, only 2 people made the cut. The selected candidates were Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Neyadi. Both of them went through the UAE Astronaut Program at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center.
Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre was established by the Vice-President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sultan Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the year 2015 integrating the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST).

Since the establishment of the institution, they have successfully undertaken various projects like DubaiSat-1, DubaiSat-2, KhalifaSat, Nayif-1, and their most acclaimed one; The Emirates Mars Mission. The ruler of Dubai named the unmanned probe to Mars “Al-Amal” or the Hope Probe as it carries with it the hopes and vigor of scientific development of the region.
Sultan Saif Muftah Hamad Al Neyadi is one of the existing 2 astronauts in the United Arab Emirates. He was born in Umm Ghafa, an interior location just along the outskirts of Al Ain. After his schooling, he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the UAE Armed Forces.
He is an Alma mater of the University of Brighton and Griffith University. Al Neyadi will be the first Emirati to spend 6 months in space, which will be a historic moment in the UAE Space Missions history.
Al Neyadi will join the SpaceX Crew-6 mission which was launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. The Emirati Astronaut is expected to be on board the ISS till September 2023.
