Burj Al Arab building two massive new swimming pools
We told you last week that the Burj Al Arab is to be expanded. And now we can reveal how. Our sources in Norway tell us that two massive new swimming pools are currently under construction there. Once ready, they will be shipped across to Dubai, and practically dropped into place.
The two pools are said to be of “mega size”. Weather dependent, the famous hotel could see the new pools open to customers by next March.
The plan to build them off site will mean minimum disruption, with only piling work required at the hotel.
Speaking last Wednesday morning at the Conde Nast Traveller Forum in Dubai, Jumeriah Group President & CEO Gerald Lawless put up a slide of the Burj Al Arab, and said, “If you look closely, you may notice something different.”
“We will be announcing something soon,” Lawless added.
All this is in keeping with the group’s impressive expansion plans, notably the new Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel which is fast taking shape right next door to the Burj Al Arab. When opened next year it will have 430 rooms, set among landscaped gardens and three swimming pools.
The Burj Al Arab itself was opened in 1999 and is the world’s only seven star hotel. It stands on an artificial island 280 metres from Jumeirah Beach. If the slide shown by Jumeirah Group is anything to go by, the actual island itself is to be expanded quite considerably to make room for the new swimming pools.
The hotel is no stranger to brilliance. In May it won the “Best Hotel in the World” award at the Daily Telegraph’s Ultimate Luxury Travel Awards - for the third year running. With all this work, it looks like it’s making itself a major contender to win a fourth time.
