Jumeirah and Al Wasl Roads to be one-way

In a bold change for Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Road, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have announced plans to implement one-way traffic.

Both roads will move clockwise according to the new plan, which was approved last year by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It’s hoped that the one-way system will help ease traffic and make the roads friendlier for pedestrians.

This is all part of the traffic improvement strategy, and Mattar Al Tayerm, director-general and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, announced plans for the new one-way system, however a date for implementing the change hasn’t been revealed.

Once the one-way system is in place, if you’re travelling along Al Wasl Road, you’ll be going towards Jebel Ali, while those driving along Jumeirah Road will be heading in the direction of 2nd December Street.

This is one of many traffic improvement projects which are being trialed across the city, in a partnership between the RTA and Dubai Police. There are also plans to deal with traffic congestion caused by accidents faster, hoping to get roads back to a normal flow as quickly as possible.

This project is expected to be revealed soon, and will be trialed on a portion of Sheikh Zayed Road over a number of months to test efficiency.

There is also talk of improving entry and exit points around International City.

So it seems that big changes are coming to Dubai’s roads in the near future, hopefully making commutes easier and with fewer delays.
