Major Dubai roads to close over next four days

The Dubai Tour kicks off today (Wednesday February 3) – and as always it will mean several delays and closures for motorists. The good news is that the closures in each section will last no more than an hour.

So where should you not go? Right now as the tour starts, the worst area to be in will be Al Sufouh Road. The first day of the race will see cyclists pedal a total of 179km from Dubai International Marine Club to Fujairah. Silicon Oasis will be closed around 11am to 12pm, while the motorway to Fujairah from Al Badee Bridge will be shut between 1pm and 2pm.

It doesn’t look much better for the next few days of the four day event. On Thursday, the race will start from Dubai International Marine Club at 10am. This stage is 188km long and passes through Jumeirah Islands and The Palm Jumeirah before finishing at Atlantis The Palm at 3.30pm. This means from around 2pm, roads leading to The Palm Jumeirah will be at a standstill – best to avoid the whole area. The race will also hit the Downtown area around 2pm Thursday.

Our advice for Thursday is, erm, get the Metro.

Stage 3 on Friday is 172km long, again starting at Dubai International Marine Club and heading to Hatta. If you were thinking of going to Hatta anytime between 12pm and 2pm, think again.

Saturday is the last day. Starting at the same location the race will go through several key Dubai locations including Business Bay where it will end. Once again, may areas of the emirate will be affected between 11am and 3pm.
