Dubai Airshow Returns This November, Displaying Global Aerospace Trends

Over the years, the Dubai Airshow has witnessed remarkable growth in its significance and influence, which was evident in its November 2021 edition.

The event proved to be a mega success with deals worth more than USD 74 billion announced, and an impressive 104,000 attendees, including senior executives from 148 countries. This edition also recorded a 50% increase in trade visitors.

The event is supported by prominent aviation stakeholders such as Dubai Airports, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), the UAE Ministry of Defence, Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP), and the UAE Space Agency.

The upcoming edition of the Dubai Airshow will have a special focus on sustainability initiatives and technologies, as declared by the UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who named 2023 as the ‘Year of Sustainability’.

This action demonstrates the UAE’s unwavering commitment to promoting sustainable circularity in the run-up to the COP28 summit in Dubai.

The event will showcase the latest sustainability initiatives and technologies from government entities and the aerospace industry.

Various industry players across the country are investing in new projects and initiatives to eliminate their environmental impact. Emirates, for example, has successfully operated its first demo flight powered by 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel, while Dubai Airports is implementing innovative solutions to limit its environmental impact.

Aerial mobility is also expected to witness significant growth, with Dubai planning to launch flying taxis in 2026. Furthermore, advancements in electric and hybrid eVTOLs are on the horizon, and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) has published the world’s first national regulations related to vertiports.

The Dubai Airshow, in collaboration with the Defense Services Marketing Council (DSMC), conducted its inaugural Advisory Board meeting, with participation from senior members across the aerospace, space, and defense ecosystem.

The meeting aimed to steer the agenda of the Airshow and facilitate the sustainable growth of the global industry. H.E. Sarah Al Amiri inaugurated the meeting, and the Advisory Board discussed various topics, including the UAE National 2023 objectives’ priorities, particularly in the aviation, space, and defense sectors. The meeting aimed to propel this year’s Airshow’s themes forward.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Airports, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, highlighted Dubai’s position as a hub for international aviation and aerospace.

He expressed confidence in Dubai’s innovative and growth-oriented outlook and emphasized the importance of the upcoming Dubai Airshow 2023 in promoting sustainable industry practices for future generations.

He further stated that the event would bring together prominent stakeholders from the aerospace and defense sectors to foster greater connectivity and efficiency, in line with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability initiative.

VISTA, a hub for global aerospace start-ups, will return to Dubai Airshow 2023, co-located with the event after its successful launch in 2021. The platform will offer new opportunities, challenges, increased mentorship, and access to more investors, showcasing the emerging sectors that are transforming the industry’s future.

The forthcoming event will also boast an upgraded conference agenda that will delve into important subjects such as the future of aviation, the comfort and convenience of passengers, and the exclusive Air Worthiness and Safety Conference – an invite-only affair organized by the UAE Ministry of Defense.

In 2023, the Dubai Airshow is aiming to further emphasize its commitment to space-related initiatives through various additions, such as a dedicated area called the “Space Experience Zone,” a program tailored for space delegations, and an extended two-day content program.

The event will host its biggest Space pavilion to date, featuring leading and fast-growing organizations showcasing the latest and innovative space technologies and solutions.

Dubai Airshow 2023, in line with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability and global aerospace carbon net zero strategies, aims to highlight the role of the space sector in driving innovation and sustainability. As stated by Tim Hawes, the managing director of Tarsus F&E, the event will align with national strategies and upcoming global events such as the COP28 summit in Dubai.
