Dubai Cares And The Ban Ki-Moon Center Are Collaborating To Educate Youth About Climate Change

For the past few years, the climate challenge has been a hard challenge to face for global leaders. Year by year the situation seems to grow worse. To address the problem, Dubai cares, a civil society organization associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications, has partnered with Ban Ki-Moon Centre for Global Citizens to launch the “Green Jobs for Youth” .

Educate Youth About Climate Change

The three main objectives of the program are to leverage the power of technology to empower students with green knowledge and skills; a mentoring activity by a professional who has expertise in the green environment and a policy recommendation that allows the qualified youth to involve in green jobs, this policy will also ensure the decision-makers with necessary information regarding the dedication, qualification, and motive of the youths who are willing cooperate.

The program aims to educate around 10,000 youths around 14-20 years of age, across the nation. It also employs a group of 45 mentors who are diversly focused on encouraging the youth to understand the severity of climate change.

These 45 mentors will be responsible for conducting SDG Micro-Projects, which are initiatives generated after thorough study by BKMC fellows, mentors, and scholars. These micro-projects are packed with solutions that are focused to tackle one or more climate change issues by sustainable methods on a local, national or international level.

Dubai Cares’ is committed to delivering these programs to enhance climate change awareness. Moreover, the online course benefits 277,980 individuals indirectly, including job providers, policymakers, and parents of enrolled youths.

Additionally, Dubai Cares expanded its programmatic portfolio as a key solution to provide education regarding the global climate and sustainable development.

The Memondurum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations and Co-Chair of the Ban Ki-Moon Centre for Global Citizens, Ban Ki-Moon and Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman of Dubai Cares in the presence of Monia Froehler, Chief Executive officer of the Ban Ki-Moon Centre for Global Citizens. The agreement was signed at the Dubai Cares office.

The partnership between both organizations reflects their integration and commitment towards educating the youth through this collaborative and interaction-oriented program, as they believe; youth is key to a climate solution.

Dubai Cares recent collaboration with the upcoming COP28 UAE presidency in association with climate education objectives for COP28 – further strengthens their commitment towards their climate interactive project.

It is reported that Dubai Cares, a UAE-based global philanthropic organization that supports early childhood development and support children, will host the second edition of its RewirEd Global Education Summit – a development program that focuses on youth and their skills for future development, to provide innovative education and many more. The organization aims to centralize youth as the key solution to climate change. They believe that educating the youth with proper climate awareness will help the world to heal rapidly in the future. 

The promising representation of both the organization’s efforts to support COP28 has always been immense. The partnership of Dubai Cares and the BKMC strengthens their commitment to contribute to climate change by successfully educating youth to address the solution through their action-oriented projects.

This programmatic approach enhances the potential of youth by educating them about the severity of the crisis as well as how their roles impact influencing the community to drive positive climatic actions. Moreover, this program ensures that young talents fulfill their true potential by unleashing the unique individual skills that also enable them to approach innovative climate solutions which can assist the transition to a green economy at a much faster rate.

In the wake of their partnership, Ban-Ki moon said that; when he was serving as Secretary-General of the United Nations, they implemented several sustainable development goals including the Paris Climate Agreement, which holds more than 190 countries in the agreement.

He continued that under those frameworks, universal education was mandatory as it is essential for the future of the planet. He added that with the partnership of Dubai Cares, they have the opportunity to represent to the world how crucial education is to understand the global complications that help to deal with climate change, as well the potential that lies in green jobs while empowering the motivated youths.

Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Dubai Cares expressed that “Youth is the biggest asset to solve the most complex issues facing humanity, especially climate change”.

He enumerated that with the collaboration of the Ban Ki-Moon Center for Global Citizens, they aim to provide meaningful opportunities to youth through their projects to engage with the climate sector more actively, to learn and prepare for the transition toward a greener economy. He praised enthusiastically the opportunity to work along with the BKMC to unlock more methods that unleash the potential of the youth to implement strategic solutions to fight climate change.
