Dubai Municipality's Key Strategic Projects Reviewed By Hamdan Bin Mohammed And Maktoum Bin Mohammed

H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, stated in a statement issued on March 9th, 2023, that the role of Dubai Municipality extends beyond basic service provision to include the improvement of residents’ overall wellbeing, satisfaction, and happiness.

He expressed confidence in Dubai Municipality’s ongoing corporate transformation, which aims to raise the standard of its initiatives and projects, and predicted further progress in the future.

In a statement, H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE, highlighted Dubai’s multicultural status and the UAE’s ambition to become the most magnificent and exceptional city in the world under Mohammed bin Rashid’s vision.

Sheikh Maktoum applauded the progress of Dubai Municipality’s corporate transformation programmes, emphasizing the Municipality’s critical role in advancing growth and collaborating with the private sector to improve Dubai’s global standing.

During their visit to Dubai Municipality, Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Maktoum was given updates on the Municipality’s restructuring efforts, as well as the progress of a number of important initiatives, projects, and strategic plans. They were thoroughly briefed on the Municipality’s operations since the start of the restructuring process.

Throughout the visit, the executive leaders of Dubai Municipality and their teams provided detailed briefings to Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Maktoum. They were informed that the Municipality’s new organizational structure has been nearly 80% implemented, and 170 initiatives have been completed as part of the executive directors’ 100-day plans.

The next stage of Dubai Municipality’s development was also discussed, including its goal of implementing 200 corporate transformation initiatives between 2023 and 2024. The Municipality intends to increase private sector partnerships to 60% of all projects and to achieve a customer satisfaction rate of 90%.

Their Highnesses were greeted warmly upon their arrival at Dubai Municipality by Mattar Al Tayer, the Commissioner General for Infrastructure, Urban Planning, and Well-Being, and Dawoud Al Hajri, the Director General of Dubai Municipality. The Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Dubai started their tour by visiting the “Beginning of the Journey” exhibition, which featured a variety of images documenting the Municipality’s journey over the years and highlighting some of its most notable accomplishments.

The exhibition featured photographs of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum at the opening ceremony of Dubai Municipality in 1979, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s visit, the inauguration of the Dubai World Trade Centre, the construction of the Al Maktoum Bridge, and archival images of historical and archaeological sites.

Their Highnesses were then led to the Hall of the Future, where they were treated to a visual display highlighting Dubai Municipality’s impressive achievements.

The contributions of Dubai Municipality to beautifying the emirate were highlighted, including the planting of over 500,000 trees at a rate of 500 trees per day between 2020 and 2022. During the same time period, the municipality produced over 136 million plant and flower seedlings in its nurseries.

The 100-Year Project, which includes the largest and longest sustainable rainwater tunnel in the world, was also discussed, as it has contributed significantly to the emirate’s sustainability. Finally, the Municipality’s efforts resulted in soil quality indexes of 95.7%, 95.34% air quality indexes, and 94.4% water quality indexes.

The tireless efforts of Dubai Municipality have resulted in a remarkable 200% increase in land allocated for citizens’ residential areas in 2023.

In addition, between 2020 and 2022, the Municipality will build a 50-kilometre mountain bike track in the Mushrif National Park, as well as over 70 residential parks, family squares, and sports fields in citizens’ neighbourhoods. These initiatives are part of Dubai Municipality’s commitment to cementing the city’s position as the best place to live in the world.

The Municipality’s unwavering commitment to public health and safety is also evident in the completion of over 6 million inspection visits and laboratory examinations between 2020 and 2022, with a focus on ensuring the highest food safety and public health standards.

The Municipality presented Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Maktoum with new initiatives, including a unified platform for investment opportunities and the Geospatial Digital Twin Project. The platform will offer demographic and engineering data about Dubai, as well as exclusive opportunities for young people.

The project is a three-dimensional digital replica of the city that includes data on facilities, assets, population, business, transportation, and the environment. It aims to improve residents’ quality of life by modelling city growth and coordinating efforts to anticipate the future. The project is in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

The Highnesses were briefed on several initiatives, including a unified investment platform for submitting and evaluating ideas, demographic and engineering data, and a Geospatial Digital Twin Project that models city expansion.

With an advanced sewage system, the biogas-to-energy project hopes to cut energy consumption by half. The Dubai Beautification Agenda encourages creative landscaping and pedestrian walkways. The Municipality’s operations are managed by the Command and Control Centre, which also assists first responders during emergencies and facilitates decision-making through advanced geospatial analysis tools.
