The Road and Transport Authority released the statement that this project is the authority’s tedious efforts to transform Dubai into a city that is friendly for bicyclists too.

And to achieve this goal the department has to work on improving the infrastructure of the tracks and connect them with the residential areas as well as popular attractions.

The design works and the construction of this track tunnel was meticulously thought out and executed as per the technical guidelines, and specifications, of the highest international standards.

The tunnel’s interior design is that of a beautiful landscape of plateaus and hills in the background of twilight. The tunnel is set up with night as well as daylighting to always enable clear visibility for cyclists.

This RTA’s big-picture scheme for paths solely dedicated to cyclists in Dubai is an innovative and sustainable strategy to develop and enlarge the cycling tracks and create a network of these tracks that connect to the key areas of the emirate.

This plan has its target set on augmenting the total length of such tracks to an impressive 819 km with the deadline set for the latter quarter of 2026.

The cycling tracks constructed during the Q1 of 2022 had already reached 542 km, which is a noteworthy feat.

This plan also will be an encouragement to the residents and visitors alike to practice sports and recreational tasks while providing a safe and secure environment for the cyclists as a result of adhering to the highest safety standards.

This project will not only enhance the existing infrastructure of the Meydan intersection but also includes transforming the surface intersection of the cycling tracks with the Meydan region into a tunnel dedicated to this sole purpose, making sure of the unrestricted and safe movement throughout the Meydan Cycling track.

This cycling track tunnel also serves cyclists by linking the developmental projects at Meydan and Nad Al Sheba communities in addition to connecting with the Cyclists Club with the track.

Dubai introduced its plans to be bicycle friendly almost one year ago. And it has not been that long since the city achieved another Guinness world record for the longest continuous cycling path. The Al Qudra Cycling Track covers an impressive distance of 80.6 km.

These initiatives were on par with the strategies that the crown prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum introduced.
