Dubai Police arrests 47 percent of drug cases

The General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police have reported their efficient combating against substance-related crimes. The department recorded 47 percent of suspects arrested in the country within the first quarter of 2023.

The department was able to confiscate 238 kg of drugs and 6 million narcotic pills in Dubai. This quantity comprises almost 36 percent of the total quantity seized in the country. The drugs confiscated by the department consist of a wide range of substances like cocaine, heroin, crystal meth, marijuana, opium, and hashish in addition to narcotic people.

These statistics were revealed during a performance evaluation meeting of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics for the first quarter of the year 2023. The event was presided by the Commander in Chief of the Dubai Police Department, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, and several other senior police officers.

In the meeting conducted, various plans and their executing mechanisms were discussed, as well as the strategies to fight such drug trafficking cases and also to conduct awareness programs for the education of the public.

The meeting also covered cases related to narcotics that were recorded during the last year in addition to the first three months of this year were compared and studied with the cases during the same period in last year.

Records show that Dubai Police have found valuable proof, offering 65 important pieces of information to various countries during the Q1, which paved the path to the arrest of 65 suspects and confiscation of 842kg of drugs, including khat, cocaine, heroin, and marijuana. Department efforts were also proven successful in finding and blocking over 200 social media profiles that were actively promoting substance.

The Director of Hemaya International Center, Colonel Abdullah Al Khayat, has reviewed the achievements of the center during the first quarter of 2023. 24,204 beneficiaries were recorded who were of various ethnicities and nationalities and received students and community programs. Mr. Al Khayat reported that the number of people who benefitted increased in number compared to the years before with 6,092,699 individuals now profiting from various sites on social media and awareness programs.

The Dubai Police Department shared the statistics through their Twitter profile stating that the Dubai police account for 47 percent of arrests and 36 percent of narcotics across the United Arab Emirates with the hashtags ‘your security our happiness’ and ‘smart secure together’.
