Dubai Remains No.1 Destination for Greenfield FDI Projects

Dubai is maintaining its leading position for attracting the Greenfield FDI projects in 2022, further strengthening its placement as the world’s top foreign direct investment hub, as per the latest data collected from the 2022 Financial Times ‘FDI Markets’ report.

Dubai is doing this for the second time now, maintaining the top spot and attaining an 89.5 percent Year on Year boost in total announced FDI projects in 2022, whilst the overall FDI capital raised 80.3 percent over the same time.

The Crown Prince of Dubai and the Chairman of the Executive Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said that Dubai’s capability to maintain the rank no. 1 in the Greenfield FDI ranking list for 2 years in a row is a reflection of the emirate’s potential to sustain its compelling investment value proposition while the global economy was facing difficulties.

He added that it is with the visionary guidance of the emir Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the emirates can now offer stability, sustainability, infrastructure, and a landscape rich in opportunities, all these factors ensuring the long-term trust of international investors, businesses, and entrepreneurs.

He also added that Dubai is a leader on a global scale in attracting FDI in a wide range of industries, and future-oriented sectors, which works as evidence for the strategic visions explained in the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which targets integrating Dubai as the World’s top urban economy.

This was a perfect moment that resulted in the consolidated status of this emirate as the top three global cities, which was a major goal of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, announced by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the vice president, prime minister of the United Arab Emirates and emir of Dubai.

In the data released by the Financial Times, Dubai was top in attracting FDI projects into tourism, financial and business service, transport and warehousing, consumer products and software, and the IT field. Dubai also clutched the leading position in 2022, attracting FDI projects in the creative industries sector, and research and development projects.

The Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism, Helal Saeed Almarri, said that Dubai’s top position in FDI rankings holds up a strong and comprehensive framework of initiatives that were launched to strengthen the city’s business and investment scene, as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Mr. Almarri added that their efforts to achieve the targets of D33 are reinforced by the accomplishments of attracting and stimulating FDI and reflect the confidence investors and MNCs, start-ups, and global talents have in Dubai.

Dubai attracted seventh-most Greenfield FDI Capital and fifth-most FDI jobs. From the MENA region, Dubai ranked second in FDI capital and first in FDI Jobs. Approximately, 38,447 employment opportunities were created in Dubai in 2022.
