Dubai RTA Opens New Flyover Connecting Ras Al Khor And Nad Al Hamar

The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has opened a new flyover to the public that will now connect the Ras Al Khor road and the Nad Al Hamar road. The newly completed flyover was opened for public use on Sunday, February 19, 2023, and is part of the Phase II objectives under the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement project.

The new flyover begins from the Ras Al Khor road intersection with the Nad Al Hamar road and extends to the Ras Al Khor road intersection that is towards the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The complete flyover construction consists of a 988-meter-long two-lane bridge as well as underpasses altogether spanning 1,471 meters and is projected to increase the road capacity to 30,000 vehicles in an hour.

New Improvements Part of RTA’s Masterplan to Reduce Traffic Across Dubai

Another two-lane bridge that will be 115 meters long is currently under construction. Once completed, it will help drastically reduce the traffic that comes from the Nad Al Hamar road into the Ras Al Khor road that is in direction of the Dubai-Al Ain road.

Along with the bridge, a 368-meter long two-lane underpass will also be opened, which will provide the drivers with a right-turn while coming from the Ras Al Khor road, to head towards the Nad Al Hamar road.

Speaking at the event of the new road opening, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General of the Dubai Road and Transport Authority said that “The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement Project is one among the several strategic road improvement projects that are carried out as per the orders from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and the Ruler of Dubai.

Projects such as the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement Project are part of the continuous efforts taken by Dubai’s leadership to ensure continuous improvement and upgrade of the infrastructure within the city.”

Al Tayer further added that “The project also aims in enhancing the existing infrastructure efficiency of Dubai to support the strategic objectives set up across the board within the emirate.”

The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement Project was put into motion to upgrade the Ras Al Khor road of the existing E44 expressway as well as between the interchanges of the road with the D62 and E66 expressways.

The upgrade, once completed fully, will ease the flow of traffic and will benefit the major development projects in the area such as the Dubai Creek, Al Wasl, the Lagoons, Ras Al Khor, Nad Al Hamar Complex, and Meydan Horizon. Altogether, over 650,000 residents located within these areas will enjoy the benefits of the new improvements.

The completed Phase I of the project was opened to the public by the Dubai RTA back in December 2022 which included the extension of the Ras Al Khor road and Dubai-Al Ain road intersection, known as the Bu Kadra intersection to the Ras Al Khor road intersection with the Nad Al Hamar road.

The works in Phase 1 of the project also included the widening of the road from three lanes to four lanes for more than 4 kilometers in both directions.

Also, all the bridges that lead to the Dubai Creek Harbour were also opened extending 1,730 meters and having the capacity to handle around 10,600 vehicles in an hour.

The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement Project is currently one of the largest projects that are carried out by the Dubai Road and Transport Authority. Upon the completion of the two phases, the journey time is expected to be just seven minutes, in comparison to the twenty minutes it currently takes to complete the same journey.

The Dubai RTA has been working continuously with new projects that are meant to reduce the traffic within Dubai and provide a better living experience for residents across popular areas of the city.

Just last month, the Dubai RTA opened new bridges and roads within the Silicon Oasis district to ensure smoother traffic flow, under the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street Improvement Project. Implementations under the project include a new 3-kilometer road from the Dubai-Al Ain intersection road to the Academic City roundabout.

Two new bridges that are 120 meters long and have four lanes in both directions were also opened at the Silicon Oasis intersection.

With these new additions, the traffic capacity is set to increase to over 14,000 vehicles in an hour within Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street in both directions.

In the future, the RTA has plans to add improvements to the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street that extends from the Academic City to the Al Awir Street junction.

Silicon Oasis is one of the key districts within Dubai and has over 25 colleges and universities accommodating over 27,000 students. Thus, the new road improvements will definitely help ease traffic during peak hours.
