Dubai Unveils To Host 1,000 Sports Events A Year And Double GDP

In support of the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Council has approved a 10-year strategy for developing the Emirate’s sports sector. In the blueprint, the council aims to organize 3,000 local, regional, and international events as well as seeks to host 1,000 international training camps across the emirate. The 2023-2023 plan pursues strategies to double the economy of the country by flourishing the sports sector of the nation.

This development strategy was approved in the first meeting of the council held by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai sports council, in alignment with the vision and directives of the President of the UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The sports council meeting was attended by Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council; Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council Assistant Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports council Nasser Aman, and member of the Dubai Sports council such as its Board directors and Board members.

The key objectives of the strategy include hosting 1,000 sporting events annually, along with several initiatives that engage Dubai to become a key destination for global sporting events, tournaments, and training camps. It also aims to boost the engagement of the private sector in hosting sporting events by 90%. The strings of initiatives to be launched in the year 2023 include launching several global tournaments such as Dubai Super Cup and the World Tennis League.

The meeting also discussed the policies to attract athletes to Dubai Clubs

During the meeting, Sheikh Mansoor also issued directives to promote the health and well-being of the athletes by collaborating with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and the Dubai Health Authority, as well as implementing a plan to launch an award for schools to recognize their implemented measures to enhance the health and well being of the students in schools. 

He also announced that the launched strategies reflect the UAE’s commitment to the ‘year of sustainability – under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to implement sustainability-focused initiatives that guarantee a sustainable future in the sporting sector. The strategy also seeks to boost Dubai’s GDP from 2% to 4% annually, through the Sports sector, which the council assures to be promising by organizing international and local events and campaigns.

The newly launched directives include five pillars that will be prioritised at every level of progress. The five pillars include Moulding a new future for sports by focusing on the development of e-sports using metaverse and artificial intelligence. Secondly, to make Dubai an attractive international sporting hub that contributes to the local GDP. Third, Making it accessible for all the community members.

The fourth pillar is to make provide a world-class environment to attract more athletes from all over the world. The final pillar is to develop an integrated digital institution system that helps to interconnect as well as ensures comprehensive governance of the sports sector.

As of now, United Arab Emirates is already a hotspot for the sporting industry. During previous years, the nation has hosted world-class sporting events such as T20 Cricket – IPL, PSL, T20 World cup, Formula One, Tennis, Golf, and UFC and many more

During the DP world tour conducted in Jumeriah, last year, witnessed around 65,000 spectators watching the tournament, and 18,000 of those were international visitors. Additionally, other sporting events such as Rugby World 7s, FIFA World Cup in Qatar and many more have been indicated to add more than €2 billion to the economy of the nation through the Dubai Sports Council.

Dubai sports council is also appreciated for providing more than 100,000 jobs for its natives.
