Dubai Wins Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2023 For The Second Successive Year

For the second year in a row, Dubai ranks No. 1 and wins the Travelers’ Choice Awards 2023 award from TripAdvisor, standing firm on its position as the world’s most favorite tourism destination.

The “Travelers’ Choice Awards” is a recognition provided by the world’s most popular travel-related website Trip Advisor. There are several categories of awards that are given out each year for the best hotels, experiences, restaurants, and travel destinations.

All awards are determined with the help of reviews, stores, and ratings given by real people who have visited the place, eaten at the listed restaurant, or been a part of the experience. The awards are announced based on the overall consideration of how consistent and popular each listing has been over the past 12 months.

Dubai won the Travelers’ Choice 2023 Awards in the “Most Popular Destinations in the World” category. Out of the 25 cities awarded, the city of Marrakech in Morocco took the 8th spot, the cities of Hurghada and Cairo took the 14th and 18th rankings respectively, and the city of Doha in Qatar stood in 24th position.

Following Dubai ranked No. 1, Bali (Indonesia), London (the United Kingdom), Rome (Italy), and Paris (France) took the next four spots respectively, making up the top five most visited cities around the world according to Trip Advisor.

The latest recognition supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, launched in 2023, and has 100 initiatives that aim to transform Dubai for the next decade and keep the city planted as one of the top three most popular destinations in the world for both business and leisure.

Talking about the achievement, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and the Chairman of Dubai Executive Council said “The latest recognition in the form of Travelers’ Choice Awards solidifies the Dubai leadership’s vision to transform the city into one of the best tourism and business destinations in the entire world, which is reflected in the latest Dubai Economic Agenda D33 transformative goals set by the government.

The diverse set of hospitality and tourism options in the city, the status of the city as the best place in terms of security and features to organize global events, as well as the city’s reputation of attracting top talent and businesses from all around the world, has definitely played its role in making Dubai a top-rated destination. These factors already played a major role in the city’s trajectory of recovery following the pandemic and are also expected to continue its positive role in taking Dubai into the future as well.”

Helal Saeed Al Marri, the Director General of Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), said about the achievement that “Ranking No. 1 as the most popular worldwide destination for the second time in a row showcases the immense amount of work that’s been carried out by the various stakeholders of Dubai, all of which are in-line with the vision and guidance put forward by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, that aims at making the city of Dubai as the most futuristic and best destination in the world for a living, leisure, business, and work.”

He further stated that “ without a doubt, Tourism is one of the pillars of the economic diversification and growth of Dubai and the continued focus and investment to provide a positive experience overall in every aspect possible definitely keeps the tourism aspects of the city strong and also fuels the acceleration in the domain.”

The growth in Dubai’s tourism sector has also brought out several opportunities for the skilled talent available in the country, and the government’s initiatives aimed at providing training and education for Emirati men and women ensures to make them ready for private jobs ensures that the national workforce is ready to meet any demands that arise throughout the country.

According to data published by the Dubai DET, over 12.82 million tourists came to Dubai between January 2022 and November 2022. In comparison, 6.02 million tourists came to Dubai during the same period in 2021, with the drastic fall in numbers attributed to the travel restrictions that were in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

For people planning to visit Dubai in the future, Trip Advisor also lists out some of the activities in the city that tourists definitely shouldn’t miss.

Topping the list is definitely a visit to the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. Other unique opportunities to experience the city include a visit to the Dubai Creek and “Old” Dubai to see the historical remains of the older Dubai city, taste the various local and international food options available, visit the spices and gold market in the city, desert camping, visit the various nature reserves, and more.
