Dubai’s Baseball United Announced Mumbai Cobras As first Franchise

It was announced last Monday, May 15th that a professional baseball league will be launched. This baseball league will be the first of its kind in the Middle East and South Asian region. Dubai’s Baseball United has revealed “Mumbai Cobras” will be the first in the region.

Three More Teams Coming On Baseball United Tournament

Along with the Mumbai Cobras, there will be three other teams that will be competing in the showcase tournament organized by Dubai’s Baseball United. The tournament will be conducted at the Dubai International Stadium in November. The names of the three other teams will be revealed in the following weeks.

Kash Shaikh, the president and CEO of Baseball United shared the legacy of Major League Baseball. He said that MLB has more than 150 years of history and so much romance and pageantry. In addition, he added that baseball was one of the few American sports that have yet to be widely spread to this part of the world.

Baseball United has in its bag over 200 talented players hailing from more than 30 countries. Out of these 64 players will be selected for the 4 teams. The remaining players will be drafted in for the inaugural game, the game season expected to start by the fall of 24. The organization has promised there will be players from the United States to play for the league, but their names are not yet disclosed.

There are high-profile investors for this Dubai-based league. Mariano Rivera is a top figure in this sport. He played 19 seasons in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees and was a 12-time Major League Baseball all-star. Barry Larkin, who played for the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball. Both these stars are Hall of Farmers. 

The Leagues said in a statement that the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East region accommodate two billion people and over 900 million of these people are cricket fans. Soccer also remains a pretty prominent sport in this region. The 2022 Fifa World Cup was hosted in Qatar, and this small nation spent over 220 billion dollars, which is 15 times more than the 2018 edition of Fifa conducted by Russia.

Mr. Kash Shaikh shared in a digital announcement that this league will be unique and will be introducing many more new and different traditions that will vary slightly from the MLB.

 He added to the audience’s anticipation saying that viewers will be seeing things that they will never witness in other professional baseball leagues to increase the appeal of the cricket audiences.

Shaikh also indeed that the league will be taking care of the first 4 teams and the 4 additional teams to be launched in the coming years. He hopes that the teams will be in a capacity to reap profitable returns at the auction.

Dubai will be Baseball United’s focal point of functioning and also the host of their first game. They believe it to be a very strategic location for the start of an innovative baseball league. Dubai will be the foundation, the epicenter, and the launch pad, said Shaikh.
