Former Minister And Emirati Businessman Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla Passes away

The prominent UAE businessman, Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla, who contributed to the financial and business sector of the UAE to achieve the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan and his brothers, passed away at the age of 97 on 2 February 2023.

Mohammed Saeed AL Mulla played a crucial role in diversifying the nation’s economy through the financial and business sectors. One of his significant contributions to the UAE was the establishment of the National Bank of Dubai, which today is known as EmiratesNBD.

Saeed Al Mulla was also chosen to be the first chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which played a crucial role in improving the business environment by supporting and protecting the interest and objectives of the business enterprises in the Emirate. The role of the chamber was to study, analyze and regulate the business affairs in the city.   

Additionally, he is also considered one of the founders of the “Dubai post”, which is the first set of postage stamps issued under the Trucial Emirates.

Condolences from the Rulers of Dubai

In the wake of his demise, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai expressed his condolences to the family of Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla.

The president of the UAE posted on Twitter, “Today, brother Muhammed Saeed Al-Mulla put his travels in the presence of his lord… May God have mercy on him, dwell him in spacious gardens, and grant his family patience and solace… Muhammed Al-Mulla contributed with his generation in building the state of the union and served his countrymen in all oppositions..and put his mark on the economic march of his country..we pray for him, and from his, Lord is mercy and forgiveness..”

His highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum also took to Twitter, to offer his condolences. He offered his condolences saying that may god have mercy on Muhaammed Saeed Al Mulla…he continued that Muhammed Saeed was one of the first men of the emirates who contributed to the establishment of the union and served his country sincerely.

He concluded that the veteran has left his mark in the financial and business sector and was one of the influential economists in Dubai.

Dr Anwar Mohamemd Gargash, the UAE President’s diplomatic advisor, also poured his condolences to the deceased family through Twitter. According to his post, he said that “Today, the late Mohammed Saed Al Mulla, the former minister and prominent businessmen, and one of the men who worked sincerely to achieve the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan and his brothers, the rulers of the Union, left us.

With his departure, We lost a patriotic figure who served his country with sincerity and loyalty”. “My Sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, asking God to have mercy on him”. He concluded his post.

Muhammed Saed Mulla was appointed as the Minister of State for Union and Gulf Affairs in the first Ministerial formation of the UAE cabinet, headed by the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Among the 28 constituent committee members, Muhammed Saeed Al Mulla’s name was named third on the list after Sheikh Suru bin Muhammead Al Nahyan and His Excellency Ahmed Khalifa Al-Suwaidi.

Upon the formation of the second UAE ministerial cabinet in 1973, he was assigned the portfolio as the head of the Ministry of Transportation and Communication under the patronage of the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

During the reconstitution of the federal government in 1977, Muhammed Saeed Al Mulla maintained the same portfolio. His highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum kept him in the same for the next two ministerial formations of the ministerial cabinet, Until 1997, when he was replaced by Ahmed Humaid al-Tayer in the sixth Minitsertial formation of the UAE cabinet in 1997.

During his tenure as the Minister of Transportation and Communication, he was also appointed as the inaugural head of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board of Directors in 1965. Besides, he was also the inaugural chairman of the Emirates Telecommunications Company (Etisalat).

Along with Etistat, another notable initiative was the launch of the first satellite telecommunication company Thuraya, which was officially launched in April 1997.

Along with his contribution to the nation, he opened private business ventures with the participation of his sons in 1978. He launched a company under the name “Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla and Sons Private Limited Company”. The purpose of the company was “to acquire shares in other companies and to engage in any other trade or business of any kind”. 

Throughout the years his private venture grew to expand and diversify its investments in other business fields such as engineering, healthcare, business administration, and other public and private sectors. The entity is now under the name “Al Mulla Holding LLC”.
