In The First Quarter Of 2023, Dubai Welcomed 4.67 Million International Tourists

The Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) of Dubai revealed that the city was visited by over 4.67 million international sightseers within the first quarter of 2023, marking a 17 percent year-on-year spike. This is a major milestone for achieving the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, The Crown Prince of Dubai, revealed on Twitter that Dubai consolidated the city’s status as the leading destination in global tourism by welcoming over 4.67 million international guests within the first quarter of 2023 itself.

The number of visitors reaches 98 percent of the pre-pandemic situation

There was just a minor difference of 2 percent points from the pre-pandemic levels of 4.75 million visitors that reached Dubai in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the total of visitors in Q1 2023.

This feat triumphed due to the innovative and efficient strategies adopted by visionary government instructing authorities, resulting in the accelerated growth of the city’s tourism sector and raising the city’s status into an eminent destination for travel, work, high-quality life, business hub, and investment center.

The hotel sector surpassed the performance recorded in the pre-pandemic situation across every other hospitality metric.

There recorded an 83 percent average occupancy rate, marking itself in the leading position globally which is not all bad compared to the Q1 levels in 2019 which were recorded at 84 percent.  Q1 2023 saw a 6 percent increase in the total number of hotels and rooms compared to Q1 2022.

It was announced at the ongoing Arabian Travel Market that Dubai is the fastest-recovering destination globally from the pandemic setback and is achieving 98 percent of the tourists before the pandemic by the first quarter itself surpassing the prediction made by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

UNWTO predicted that the arrival of international sight seekers would raise to 80-95 percent of the pre-pandemic situation. These predictions were targeted at the Middle Eastern regions and European countries.
