Mohammed Bin Rashid Witnesses Signing Of UAE Governments Net Zero 2050 Charter

During a UAE Cabinet meeting, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai witnessed the signing of the UAE Government’s Net Zero 2050 Charter.

The charter is intended to support the National Net Zero by 2050 pathway announced at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change’s 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27). This initiative is consistent with the UAE’s long-term goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

H.H Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance, and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, were also there at the meeting.

UAE Government signs Net Zero by 2050 Charter to tackle climate change

A bright future for all. It is critical that we address the challenges of climate change and the negative effects it has on various aspects of life, such as public health, food and water availability, air quality, wildlife, and biodiversity.

This will necessitate the participation of all segments and sectors of society, under the leadership of the governments of the UAE’s seven emirates.

Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment emphasized the importance and inevitability of confronting the challenge of climate change and its far-reaching consequences for public health, food and water security, air quality, wildlife, and biodiversity during the signing of the UAE Government’s Net Zero 2050 Charter.

She emphasized the importance of involving all sectors of society in addressing these issues, led by the governments of the seven emirates.

The UAE is committed to implementing innovative solutions and cutting-edge technologies to support the Net Zero 2050 initiative as it prepares to host COP28 later this year and observe the Year of Sustainability.

The signing of the charter demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and taking the necessary steps to contribute to global climate action and ensure a more sustainable future for all.

The Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Saif Saeed Ghobash, emphasized the UAE leadership’s unwavering commitment to supporting climate action and strengthening efforts to combat climate change causes by uniting local and federal entities to achieve the objectives of the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative. During the cabinet meeting, Ghobash made this statement following the signing and adoption of the UAE Government’s Net Zero by 2050 Charter.

According to Ghobash, the new charter will accelerate local governments’ efforts to identify innovative and sustainable solutions for reducing carbon emissions across all sectors.

He also stated that the charter represents a significant commitment to uniting all local and federal stakeholders in advancing government climate action in the UAE, as the country prepares to host the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) from November 30th to December 12th, 2023.

Ghobash continued by stating that the charter is a continuation of the UAE’s effective efforts to combat climate change, which is becoming a significant impediment to global economic and social development. The UAE’s ongoing regional and global contributions to climate change action demonstrate its leadership and commitment to addressing one of our generation’s most pressing challenges.

Abdulla Al Basti notes that UAE signing the Climate Neutral Governments Charter 2050 affirms the country’s commitment to global sustainability and showcases its responsibility to achieve climate neutrality, with Dubai affirming its commitment to achieving the goals of the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative.

The Director of Fujairah Emiri Court, Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, highlighted the UAE’s success in establishing advanced communities that contribute to consistent economic growth by investing in renewable energy and new energy sources.

He emphasized that the emirate of Fujairah is working to achieve the targeted ambition of mitigating climate change and improving adaptation capabilities, thus contributing to the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic vision.
