Novak Djokovic Marks Record-Breaking Achievement With Second-Round Win In Dubai

Novak Djokovic began his Dubai Championships campaign with a hard-fought victory over Czech qualifier Tomas Machac. In an action-packed two-hour match, the top-ranked Serbian defeated Machac 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(1).

Novak Djokovic became the longest-serving world No. 1 in tennis history. With 378 weeks at the top of the rankings, he broke Steffi Graf’s previous record. Djokovic has dominated men’s tennis for over a decade, winning 18 Grand Slam titles and numerous other tournaments.

His perseverance and dedication to the sport have aided him in accomplishing this remarkable feat. And, predictably, he marked the occasion by doing what he does best: winning!

Djokovic celebrated this milestone by winning his first match at the Dubai Championships 2023 against Tomas Machac

This was Djokovic’s first match since winning his 10th Australian Open title in February 2021. Machac pushed the Serbian hard after losing the first set. However, Djokovic held his nerve in the decisive tiebreaker to secure the victory.

The Dubai Championships is an important warm-up event for the upcoming Miami Open and clay-court season. Djokovic will look to build on this victory and continue his impressive form as he seeks to add to his 18 Grand Slam titles.

The score indicates that Novak Djokovic’s match against Tomas Machac was far from simple. Djokovic’s level dropped significantly in the second set after easily winning the first, and he found himself facing break points and trailing 4-0.

Although Djokovic had a chance to get back on serve when Machac served for the set, the Czech qualifier held his nerve to force a decider. Djokovic appeared to regain control in the third set, leading 4-1, but his level dropped again, and Machac fought back to tie the score at 4-4.

Despite the setbacks, Djokovic won the match, winning the final set tiebreaker 7-1. The Serbian will be relieved to have survived a difficult first round and will look to improve his level as the tournament progresses.

Despite a difficult match against Tomas Machac, Novak Djokovic held his nerve to win his 13th consecutive match of the season. Djokovic’s unbeaten run this season has included a title in Adelaide and a record-extending 10th Australian Open title, tying him with Rafael Nadal for the most Grand Slam titles (20).

In the second round of the Dubai Championships, Djokovic will face Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor as he continues his quest for a third title. Despite not playing his best tennis against Machac, Djokovic will be happy to have passed a difficult test and will look to improve his level as the tournament progresses.

Daniil Medvedev is yet another player in the Dubai field who is currently on a remarkable unbeaten record. The Russian third seed got off to a good start in Dubai, defeating Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi 6-4, 6-2 in the first round to secure his 10th consecutive victory.

Medvedev, a world champion No. 1 and the 2021 US Open champion, arrived in Dubai on a nine-match winning streak, having previously won titles in Rotterdam and Doha. The 27-year-old Russian spoke about the importance of confidence in tennis and how his winning streak has boosted his level of confidence.

Medvedev will encounter Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the second round, hoping to keep his unbeaten streak going as long as possible. The Russian is one of the tournament’s favorites and will look to continue his strong form in Dubai.

Canadian tennis player Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is seeded fourth in the Dubai Championships, managed to progress to the second round of the tournament after a tough three-set match against American player Maxime Cressy.

The 22-year-old had to work hard for his victory, which he won 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, and successfully defended his four-set loss to Cressy at Wimbledon last year.

Despite the victory, Auger-Aliassime admitted that he would have preferred a more straightforward win, but he also recognized the importance of being tested by his opponent in the early stages of the tournament.

The Canadian player will now face Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in the second round, hoping to build on his victory over Cressy and maintain his good form in Dubai.

Auger-Aliassime hopes to advance further in the tournament and add to his impressive record of seven ATP Tour finals.
