Sheikh Hamadan Bin Mohammed Gave Approval To The Dubai Endowments Strategy

The Crown Prince of Dubai and the Chairman of The Executive Council, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, approved the Dubai Endowments Strategy at the Council’s meeting held on Wednesday.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed presided over the meeting, which was also attended by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE.

On addressing the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed reminisced about the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai and the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE.

He believed that those ideas were indeed vital in supporting the humanitarian initiatives of the emirates and inspiring people and organizations to contribute to charitable activities. Thus, it could help to innovate, sustain, and to expand the endowment initiatives of Dubai.

Dubai and the UAE have always been providing support to humanitarian needs around the world and this has helped the nation to strengthen its position and to remain at the forefront of sustainable endowments, he said. 

The vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has been an inspiration that supported Dubai in its endowment projects. Fostering the values such as the value of quality, innovation, sustainability, and agility has helped the projects to achieve their desired results.

These values were the driving force that led the recent initiatives. A 1 billion Meal Endowment initiative was launched during Ramadan with the aim to provide sustainable meals to millions of families around the world. This initiative was launched by His Highness and is considered to represent the largest fund for endowment. 

He further added the leadership’s vision to increase participation from individuals and organizations in different sectors like healthcare, community development, education, scientific research, and philanthropic endeavors has motivated Dubai, to increase its commitment to expanding innovative endowment funding. 

With 493 endowers and 839 endowments in total, the value of Dubai’s endowments was AED 8.8 million in the year 2022. Implementing the Dubai Endowments Strategy will help to support the Dubai Endowments Foundation and Management of Minors’ Fund (Awqaf Dubai) in expanding Dubai’s positive social influence on communities around the world. 

The goal of the Dubai Endowments Strategy is to promote an environment for endowments that is safe, sustainable, innovative, and attractive.

Thus, it aims to increase financial stability and improve the endowment service. Highlighting the societal role of endowments, it plans to spread a culture of endowments, enhance the institution’s ability and launch it as a regional benchmark. To achieve these objectives, the strategy aims to create a pioneering digital infrastructure. 

The Endowments Strategy of Dubai has recognized certain opportunities that will provide support to the people and organizations by encouraging them to take part in innovative initiatives in many fields

They can take part in the Islamic affairs meet which is designed to meet the needs of mosques in Dubai; Social affairs which aim to increase endowments’ contribution to social programs and finance projects; Philanthropic endeavors which focus on achieving a sustainable environment in Dubai; Education which is organized to promote scientific research and to improve the resources provided to the education sector and Healthcare which strives to increase the financial support given to hospitals, health research institutes, and medical centers.

The government of Dubai has been providing great support to the endowment activities and has taken many decisions that offer support to the endowment initiatives. Dubai has launched numerous endowment initiatives in recent years to offer support to local and other communities.

The Al Tadawi Medical Endowment Fund, to provide comprehensive health service; the Bonyan Al Khair initiative, with the aim to raise AED 35 million for constructing 22 charitable buildings to support unfortunate families; the Well of Water initiative to support the efforts of Dubai to provide water to all and the Bridges for Goodness campaign to assist the earthquake victims of Syria and Turkiye.

Apart from the other initiatives the Executive Council gave approval to a Fertility Study during the meeting. The study examines the family goals of Emiratis and it revealed that a lot of Emirati couples in Dubai want to have families.

According to the report of the study, the majority of the married Emirati women in Dubai are having more than three children and about 25 percent of them were having more than six. 

The study also suggested promoting childbirth by raising community awareness of marriage and providing incentives for marriage. Moreover, it commented on the need of educating couples and offering support services and advice for parents and also the importance of awareness campaigns to support family stability.

The Executive Council of Dubai was established in 2003 and is the chief decision-making body of the government.

It functions under the control and supervision of the Ruler of Dubai and aims to maintain order and security in the emirate, offer public facilities, and achieve progress socially and economically.
