The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has recently chaired a meeting in the capacity of the chairman of the Executive Council.

The agenda of the meeting was to discover and explore the opportunities that could sustainably develop and carry forward the development of Dubai.

This meeting is a consequence of the recent announcement made by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan who is the President of the United Arab Emirates. 

Last week, the President of the country placed a great responsibility on Dubai to contribute towards the upliftment of the environment according to the needs of the present generation without actually comprising the requirements of the future.

Ever since the objective behind every initiative launched in the country has been to enforce the Green Procurement Policy. This policy aligns the government functions on a shared basis so as to boost the overall efficiency of the execution. 

The New Initiatives develop a link between Development and the Environment Protection

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced the year 2023 to be the year of Sustainability. In light of this inspiration, every development activity and initiative in Dubai is projected to keep pace with the changing times and most importantly, the changes in the environmental sphere.

The recent meeting chaired by the Crown Prince propounded a legislative framework that re-establishes the position of Dubai as the forefront leader to overcome climatic risks

In an attempt to conserve the planet for future generations, the Crown Prince expressed his desire to strike a healthy balance between economic development and environmental protection. This meeting has resulted in the ratification of 200 programs that have been developed for different parts of Dubai.

These schemes focus on extending the finest and the highest levels of services to the citizens of the country. The primary objective of the meeting was to implement the policies that help to enhance the quality of life. 

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum stresses upon the collaboration between the government and the private sector for the accomplishment of this goal. The contribution of the private sector would be actually helpful to create attractive investment opportunities in Dubai.

In order to implement the first part of the scheme, the Crown Prince placed reliance on the upcoming opportunities in the circular economy. The government of the country is of the opinion to satisfy the total demand for consumables by reducing wastage.

Facilities would be installed that would help to reuse and recycle the disposed of material on a regular basis.

The meeting was attended by industrialists and the key stakeholders of different industries. The impact of every industry on the environment was studied in detail. The delegates evaluated the functioning of the construction food, packaging, and electronic waste management companies on a priority basis.

Reports were produced in order to depict the environmental harm caused by the discharge of these industries.

As a result, all of these sectors have been included in the scheme. As a result, the waste produced by these industries would be subjected to new techniques of waste management and waste treatment. This effort will go a long way to mitigate the hazardous impact on the environment.

This has not been the first time that the country has emerged to be an active player in protecting the environment. It was in the year of 2012 that the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority helped to increase the dependence of the citizens on renewable sources from conventional sources of energy by 55%.

In addition, the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai has also adopted the 2016-21 Carbons Emissions Strategy. The strategy is targeted to reduce carbon emissions by 22% by the end of  2025 and by 30% by 2030.

The program also creates awareness amongst the people to reduce the wastage of water. All of these efforts have not only helped in the replenishment of the necessary resources but also reduced the extent of pollution in the country.

The Executive Council has also adopted the Green Procurement Policy which helps to improve the supply chain by broadening the consumption of sustainable materials and procuring products in line with protectionist measures.

It helps to create a competitive environment with greater financial efficiency. The government under its shared services function would be channelizing all these efforts towards boosting the financial attractiveness of the country.

In fact, it accords a specialized and proactive role for the government to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of government operations. 

It is only on the basis of the cumulative efforts that the said objectives would be fulfilled for the betterment of Dubai in the years to come.
