Sheikh Hamdan Opens World’s Largest Solar-powered Data Centre In Dubai

The opening of Moro Hub’s green data centre by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is an important step towards realising the UAE’s ambition to lead the world in sustainable development.

The facility located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park—the largest single-site solar park in the world—has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest solar-powered data centre in the world.

Several well-known technology partners and clients, including Microsoft, Huawei, Dell Technologies, VMware, Emirates NBD, Dubai Islamic Bank, and Digital Dubai Authority, signed contracts with Moro Hub during the inaugural event. Sheikh Hamdan attended the ceremony and was welcomed at the location by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the CEO of Dewa.

Following the formal opening, Sheikh Hamdan was given a tour of the green data centre and given an explanation of the facility’s cutting-edge solutions for digital transformation, cloud and hosting services, cybersecurity, smart cities, IoT services, and professional and managed services by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. In addition, he was made aware of the Moro services, which are made possible by ChatGPT technology.

The world’s largest solar-powered data centre was created in response to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE, goal to support sustainable growth, according to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of Dewa. The establishment serves as a symbol of the UAE’s dedication to developing sustainability and the green economy and serves as a role model for the rest of the globe.

The green data centre is a prime example of how digital and energy technologies may coexist, and it serves as an excellent model for the creation of solar-powered, low-carbon information technology infrastructure.

Also, it is consistent with the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050, which are to supply Dubai with clean energy exclusively by the year 2050. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer highlighted that Moro Hub’s solar-powered data centre is in line with the UAE’s dedication to attaining the goals of the Net Zero by 2050 strategic programme.

He underlined further that the new data centre serves as a reflection of the UAE’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and making Dubai a hub for the green economy on a global scale. As part of its integrated solutions, which aid organizations and businesses in achieving net-zero carbon emissions, Moro Hub has been a leader in supporting digital transformation and sustainability.

This project is especially crucial because this year, the UAE is hosting COP 28, the biggest international climate conference.

A vital step towards the UAE’s sustainability goals and the fight against climate change has been taken by Moro Hub’s solar-powered data centre, which also serves as a reliable and effective infrastructure for digital services.
