Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Inaugurated Dubai’s Largest Heritage Museum -Al Shindagha Museum

On Monday, His Majesty Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and also the Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated Al Shindagha Museum. He emphasised the importance of museums as cultural landmarks that represent our heritage in his statement. His Highness also expressed a desire to share Dubai’s story and history with the rest of the world. His Highness believes that Dubai will continue to thrive as a hub for global civilizations on both cultural and humanitarian fronts, as it has historically been a hub for traders and individuals seeking a better life.

Al Shindagha Museum Aims to Attract 1 Million Visitors by 2025

The renovated Al Shindagha Museum in Dubai, emphasises the importance of preserving the UAE’s cultural and historical heritage. The museum tells the inspiring story of Dubai by showcasing its diverse human and cultural dimensions.

His Highness toured the museum’s various sections, including the Al Maktoum Residence, which documents the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum’s experience and role in Dubai’s development. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, also praised the museum’s efforts to preserve Dubai’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

The Al Shindagha Museum is a cultural and historical museum that provides visitors with an immersive experience. It depicts Dubai’s rich cultural heritage, traditional lifestyle, and transformation into a modern metropolis. The museum, which is located in Dubai Creek, contains exhibits, artefacts, and interactive displays that provide a vivid narration of Dubai’s history.

Visitors can explore the museum’s various sections, including the Al Maktoum Residence, which archives the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum’s experience and role in the development of Dubai, among other enlightening information.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the renovated Al Shindagha Museum in Dubai. Several dignitaries, including Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as well as the teams involved in the museum’s preservation and renovation, attended the ceremony.

Sheikha Latifa also spoke about the museum, emphasising its importance in preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage, which she considers to be the foundation of any civilization. Sheikha Latifa expressed her appreciation to the many thoughtful contributors, researchers, historians, heritage experts, and collectors who generously donated rare possessions and documents to enrich the Al Shindagha Museum, effectively capturing the customs, traditions, and heritage of Dubai’s ancient past. She also praised the officials, government entities, and teams who worked tirelessly to make the museum vision a reality.

The Al Shindagha Museum, according to her, reflects Dubai’s determination and chronicles its achievements, providing evidence of the emirate’s path towards the future, which was started by the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum and has been kept going by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The UAE’s largest heritage museum

The Al Shindagha Museum, located in the heart of Dubai Creek, is a sprawling complex that covers 310,000 square metres, making it the largest heritage museum in the UAE. The museum consists of 22 pavilions and 80 historic houses that showcase Dubai’s rich cultural heritage as well as the development of the UAE over time.

Visitors to the museum can travel through time and firsthand experience Dubai’s history and culture. The exhibits on display offer a glimpse into traditional Emirati lifestyles, such as weaving, pottery, and pearl diving, which once played an important role in the region’s economy. The museum’s many galleries contain over 3000 artefacts, photographs, and multimedia displays that provide insights into Dubai’s history and culture.

The pavilions of the museum are organized thematically, with each one dedicated to a different aspect of the region’s heritage. The Heritage and Diving Village pavilion, for example, takes visitors on a journey through Dubai’s maritime heritage and displays traditional pearl diving techniques and tools. Meanwhile, the Perfume House pavilion displays the history of traditional Arabian perfumes as well as the essential oils used to create them.

The Al Shindagha Museum also has a number of interactive exhibits that allow visitors to become immersed in Dubai’s history and culture. For example, the “We Are the People” exhibit includes a short film that depicts the UAE’s population diversity and how different nationalities and cultures have contributed to the region’s development over time.

Similarly, the “Dubai Creek Experience” exhibit allows visitors to take a virtual boat ride through Dubai’s historic Creek area and learn about its role in the development of the region.

The Al Shindagha Museum provides investment and development projects related to heritage and culture, as well as visitor services and amenities. With collections from more than 100 contributors, the museum hopes to attract over 1 million visitors by 2025. Each of the 22 pavilions, which include Dubai Creek – Birth of a City, People and Faith, Emerging City, Perfume House, and Al Maktoum Residence, has a different theme and showcases Dubai and the UAE’s history and culture.
