SRK In Dubai: Pathaan Trailer To Be Played On Burj Khalifa

One of the most awaited Bollywood movies of the year ‘Pathaan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone is scheduled to be released in theaters on the 25th of January. As part of the promotions, the trailer of the movie will be displayed on Dubai’s Burj Khalifa this Saturday, 14th January.

Pathaan has been garnering a lot of attention as it is the comeback movie of Shah Rukh Khan after a long five-year break in his film career after the movie ‘Zero’ in 2018.

The new movie has been creating a lot of hype among his fans and the public alike as the movie is guaranteed to be a full-on action thriller with mind-boggling action. It is interesting to note that the action scenes had been shot in Dubai and the city is an important part of the Pathaan trailer. 

Shah Rukh Khan or SRK as the fans adoringly call him is in the UAE for the International League T20 cricket tournament opening ceremony and he will be making time to be present at Downtown Dubai during the broadcast of the movie trailer on the tallest building in the world. The news of the trailer display at the Burj Khalifa was announced on the official social media page of Yash Raj Films, the producers of the Pathaan movie. 

The movie will be released in three languages Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu all across India and other selected countries on the 25th of January 2023. Nelson D’Souza, Vice President, International Distribution at YRF said that Pathaan is one of the most anticipated movies to come out this year and it has to be promoted in the grandest manner possible.

He said that Burj Khalifa is one of the shining marvels of UAE and the world and it is only fitting that a film created on such a big scale deserves to be shown at Burj Khalifa’s majestic site. SRK also has a huge fan following in the UAE and this would also contribute to the importance of the event.

Last year, on the occasion of SRK’s birthday, a light show was arranged at Burj Khalifa as a tribute to the Bollywood star. The light show consisted of a birthday message to the star that read, “Happy Birthday Shah Rukh…Happy Birthday Pathaan, we love you!”.   

Shah Rukh Khan, also known as ‘King Khan’ in Bollywood is no stranger to UAE and Dubai as he is the official brand ambassador of Dubai Tourism and considers Dubai as his second home. Pathaan movie stars Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia, and a stream of other major actors with a rumored cameo appearance by another Bollywood star Salman Khan.

The high-octane action movie belonging to the genre of spy thrillers is part of a larger spy universe created by Yash Raj Films. The 57-year-old actor has been a constant presence in the Bollywood culture right from the ’90s with his debut movie ‘Deewana’ in 1992 and his movie ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (1995) is considered to be one of the all-time greatest hits of the Indian Film industry with a cult fan following. Since its release in 1995, the movie has been screened in a theater in Mumbai for the past 27 years for a matinee show at 11:30 a.m.  

Two songs. ‘Besharam Rang’ and ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’ from the movie have already been released and they both are raking up the hit charts with the ‘Besharam Rang’ song stirring up some controversy among the right-wing activists in India.

The saffron-colored bikini worn by the actress Deepika in the song sequence had allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of some right-wing Hindu leaders. This sort of unprecedented attention can work in the favor of a movie as it will help get millions of views on social media websites like Instagram, YouTube, etc or it can work against it by people starting boycott campaigns that may affect the overall collection of the movie.

Lately, the Aamir Khan starrer, ‘ Laal Singh Chaddha’ had a very weak performance at the box office as it was also embroiled in a controversy regarding a statement made by the actor at a Journalism award function back in 2015. 

But all this aside, it is an undeniable fact that King Khan still holds a special place in the hearts of millions of people in India and across the world. His charisma, screen presence, and unique style have been a nostalgia factor for the ’90s and 80’s kids who have become 30-plus adults now and who are an active part of the entertainment industry demography.

Film critics have been a little doubtful about his comeback, observing that the actor is “trying hard” to portray himself as an action icon.

But if we look up the filmography of Shah Rukh Khan, we will understand that the actor has done some pretty ‘odd’ roles that his peers dare not take up like the characters in Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993), Ra.One (2011), Fan (2016), and even his last outing in 2018 ‘Zero’ where he plays a vertically challenged man. So, now only time will tell if King Khan will be able to retain his title as the ‘Badshah of Bollywood’.
