The ‘1 Billion Meals Endowment’ Campaign Generated Aed 1.075 Billion From 180,000 Contributors

The ‘1 Billion Meals Endowment’ campaign which was launched to provide food security to the underprivileged and eradicate hunger has hit a record within four weeks.

The campaign launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum the Prime Minister, Vice President and the Ruler of Dubai has raised an amount worth AED 1.075 billion from more than 180,000 contributors. 

The campaign was launched as a part of the UAE’s aim to establish a food support endowment fund In Ramadan

Sheikh Mohammed said that the campaign which was organised to achieve a target of 100 million meals has now beaten the goals. He emphasised that the UAE and kindness remain the two sides of a coin and that the one billion meals endowment campaign will continue to accept donations all the yearlong.

He has announced his personal contribution of money and real estate assets worth AED 250 million. With these efforts, he has set an example by presenting his unwavering support for the charitable endeavours of the UAE. Thus, the total amount donated to the campaign by more than 180,000 contributors will reach a total of AED 825 million. 

He also said that the month of Ramadan is a special time in the UAE, as it promotes charity and kindness to the people of the UAE. Moreover, it also reminds the people of the noble values and moral standards shared by the late Sheikh Zayed. The charitable initiatives and the prayers of the people during the time of Ramadan are what help the UAE to stand strong, he said. 

Sheikh Mohammed further added that to maintain the sustainability of kindness and giving, the UAE aims to continue the great tradition of endowments.  In order to attract more people to be a part of this initiative to provide food support, the endowments will be open always to receive contributions. He further extended his gratitude to all those who made a contribution to the largest ongoing charity initiative in the United Arab Emirates. 

There has been seen a great response for the ‘1 billion Meals Endowment’ campaign, in terms of donations and support provided to build a food safety net for the deprived all over the world. As a means to provide for this the endowment fund will be open to receive contributions during the year.

The campaign has succeeded in achieving contributions from a wide range of people. The contributions received were in the form of real estate, corporate shares and contributions in money from people and businesses as well as thousands of community members signed up to donate every day. 

The campaign was launched with the support of Muhammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and has received great community-wide support. People donated their contributions to the campaign through the official website of the campaign, bank transfers, a dedicated call centre, the DubaiNow app and SMS for Etisalat by e& and du users. 

The Secretary General of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdullah Gergawi said that the 1 billion Meals Endowment campaign accomplishment is evidence that the UAE will succeed in its journey to establish itself as an active centre for highly effective humanitarian work both globally and regionally.

This target of the largest Ramadan food endowment fund was made possible under the guidance and directives of the great leaders of the United Arab Emirates.
