UAE President HH Sheikh Mohammed Receives Call from Ukrainian President

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, received a phone call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday. The call emphasized the relationship between the two nations and discussed actions that can be taken to improve them.

Several issues of mutual concern, including the latest development in the Ukrainian crisis were also discussed.

During the conversation, Sheikh Mohammed pointed out the importance of continuing the ongoing communication to resolve the crisis that Ukraine currently faces, especially considering the economic and humanitarian impact the war and related advancements have had on a global scale thus far.

He also underlined the UAE’s stand on providing humanitarian assistance for people and countries all around the world and also said that his country will provide complete support and assistance for any efforts and initiatives taken to reach a politically stable solution for the crisis which can restore the security, peace, and stability in the region.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed offered his condolences

The Ukrainian president took the phone call opportunity to thank HH Sheikh Mohamed for all the humanitarian assistance that the country under his leadership continues to provide to the people of Ukraine, and also for his active role as a leader in promoting peace.

The UAE President also offered condolences to his Ukrainian counterpart on the death of several civilians and Ukrainian officials, including Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky, in a helicopter crash yesterday.

A total of fourteen people died in the accident, including top Interior Ministry officials of Ukraine and one child, which crash landed in Brovary around 08:30 AM local time (06:30 GMT).

Officials investigating the incident commented that all indications suggest that the crash was an accident and not any deliberate attempt.

Minister Denys Monastyrsky was one of Zelensky’s closest and long-serving political advisors and is the highest-level casualty the country has seen since the beginning of the war.

Minister Monastyrsky, along with his team of top officials, were traveling to the north-eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv for a meeting with the regional head of police.

When asked about the helicopter accident, President Zelenskyy told an audience that there are different theories about the accident going around and that an active investigation is under-progress. He also mentioned that he isn’t authorized to talk about any further details under the investigation finalizes. He also mentioned that the helicopter accident doesn’t worry him about his own safety.

In fact, Zelenskyy’s government is quite busy in active talks with governments around the world, for military assistance and peace talk initiations.

The latest meeting happened at the Ramstein Airbase in Germany, wherein discussions were held on the provision of weapon supplies to Ukraine, including the Leopard 2 tanks, which are used by several army units across the European continent.

Even though there is a common positive consensus among European nations to provide Ukraine with the Leopard 2 tanks, the fact that Germany has veto powers over the decisions to provide the tanks, and the government under German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have been a bit reluctant to provide the assistance has sparked debate.

Germany is concerned over the possibility that providing Ukraine with the tanks might provoke Putin’s Russia, and the latest Ramstein meeting between Ukraine and German officials aims at green-lighting any restrictions from Berlin on the provision of the tanks.

During a video address on Thursday night, President Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian government is now waiting for approval from one European capital (indirectly, Germany) and that once the approvals are passed on, it will mark the initiation of a predefined chain of events that will bring the tanks to Ukraine.

Even if Germany finally rejects sending the tanks to the war-torn country, there has been supporting from other nations in Europe regarding providing Ukraine with the needed equipment. Paweł Jablonski, Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland, said while in conversation on a private radio station that if there is strong resistance from others for sending the tanks, his government will take the non-standard action of sending the tanks directly. However, he also mentioned not to “anticipate facts” and wait for how Germany and others respond on the matter.

Apart from Europe, the United States of America announced on Thursday that they were extending a freshly approved military assistance worth about $2.5 billion to support Ukraine. The assistance will include support facilities for the air defense system of Ukraine, as well as several hundred armored vehicles.

As per the statement released by the United States Department of Defence, the list of armored vehicles will include 90 Armored Stryker Personnel Carriers, and 59 “Bradley” Fighting Vehicles.

President Zelenskyy, in his latest statement, said that the Ukrainian government expects NATO defense leaders and other nations to take “strong decisions” to boost the country’s ability in confronting the Russian forces.
