UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Issues Federal Law To Establish National Media Office

A new federal law establishing the National Media Office in the UAE was issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nayhan, President of the United Arab Emirates and the Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

According to the law, the new National Media Office entity will report directly to the Minister of the Presidential Court (formerly the Ministry of Presidential Affairs) and will be administratively as well as financially independent from the parent entity in terms of managing its mandates, finances, and duties.

Objective Of National Media Office

The main objective of the National Media Office will be to further enhance the media-related ecosystem in the UAE in such a way that serves the interests of the country as well as strengthen its position in the media sector both within the region and also internationally.

The primary responsibilities that will come under the National Media Office will include the development and implementation of policies related to national media, strategies, and directives; proposal, development, and reviewal of all the laws and regulations that are currently in place for national media; establish cooperation with media stakeholders to ensure that the medias operating in the country aligns with the UAE’s vision locally and internationally.

The National Media Office will also bear the responsibility for the preparation, review, and evaluation of media narratives about the United Arab Emirates both locally as well as abroad, thus aiming to enhance and preserve the reputation of the country.

The entity will also be representing the UAE in both regional and international media, taking part in media-focused events and conferences both within the country and elsewhere, and also improving communication and coordination with the stakeholders relevant to the media sector.

Below are some of the other recent federal changes introduced under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

• The name of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs (MOPA) was changed to “Presidential Court”. Also, the “Minister of Presidential Affairs” is now replaced by “Minister of the Presidential Court”.
• Ali Mohammed Hammad Al Shamsi was given the rank of Minister and was appointed as the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security.
• The UAE President promoted Staff Lieutenant General Eng. Issa Saif Mohammed Al Mazrouei to Minister rank and appointed him as the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces in the UAE.
• Hamad Mohamed Thani Al Rumaithi was promoted to the rank of Minister and appointed as the Military Affairs Adviser to the President of the UAE.
• There was also a change by HH Sheikh Mohamed for Emirates Schools Establishments. Mohamed Al Qassim, who earlier functioned with the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) was transferred with the rank of Under-Secretary to the Emirates Schools Establishments (ESE). Mohammed Al Qassim will now function as the Director-General of ESE, an entity that was formerly part of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) & Ministry of Education (MoE) Abu Dhabi
  According to an official article released by news outlet WAM UAE, Mohamed Al Qassim has held different positions including the Director of the Technology Adoption and Development Department in MoIAT, Manager of Reservoir at ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), and also the Director at the Advanced Sciences Office.

• Al Qassim has been quite successful in leading several government projects mainly in the fields of advanced technology, which includes the development and launch of strategy for the MoIAT, a program for digital maturity assessment for industrial companies, as well as the industry pioneers in the UAE program.
  
  Mohamed Al Qassim also has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Waterloo (Canada) and a master’s degree from the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP).
  
• Omran Sharaf was promoted to the rank of Ambassador and appointed as the Member of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps as well as the Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with the responsibility to handle the portfolio related to Advanced Science and Technology.
  
  Before being promoted, Omran Sharaf functioned as the Project Director for the Emirates Mars Mission and also serve duties as the Director of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. He was also a former member of the delegation that represented the United Arab Emirates in the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems.
  
  Sharaf had undertaken several major responsibilities in his career including the development, launch, and operation projects at the Mohamed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), the development and implementation of the Comand & Data Handling Subsystem of the UAE satellites DubaiSat-1 and DubaiSat-2, and also took on the responsibility of being a System Engineer for that same project.
  
  For his achievements, Sharad was presented with the “Pride of the Emirates” medal as part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award.
  
  The educational qualifications of Omran Sharaf include a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia (USA), and also a master’s degree in Science and Technology Policy from the Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea).
