Dubai Weekend ShortList

Published

on

This is the last weekend to take advantage of the fantastic deals over Ramadan. Golf clubs, spas and hotels are dropping their prices and throwing in add-ons aplenty. If you missed our Iftars under AED150, there’s still time to pack a few of them in, and if you’ve got enough time, there are some fantastic art exhibitions to see. Of course you could just sit on the sofa watching TV if you like… We’ve got that covered too.

Thursday

Golf

Being outside isn’t normally to be recommended in the summer. Too humid, too uncomfortable, too… un-air-conditioned. However, it’s also when you can find some incredible deals on places and activities that are usually slipping into the “extravagant” category. Luxury hotels, for one. Golf for another. Check out our round-up of the best summer golf deals in the city.

Staycations

Last year Dubai welcomed 11.6 million tourists. Although this stat is great for the economy, it certainly pushes up the prices on the city’s glossiest hotels. As we enjoy a short spell of quiet when the tourists (and many of the expats) have gone home, there are some serious savings to be had. Visit our ShortList of eight Ramadan hotel offers that are almost too good to be true.

Friday

Spa and salon offers

One of the best things about the mass migration of people out of Dubai during the summer is the deals to be had. We’ve already given you the best staycation deals and night golf offers, now for the spas. Whether you’re looking for an extreme pamper session or a simple mani and pedi, visit our ShortList of spa and salon offers to preen you through the weekend.

Expressions Nepal

Days before the earthquake in Nepal, Iranian photographer and artist Sara Masinaei had been capturing intimate portraits of the people as they coped with their daily lives. Her pictures include religious rituals at the ancient temple in Bhaktapur, children by the Bagmati river and farmers in Lalitpur. The result is a group of engaging photographs that offer an insight into life in Nepal as it was immediately before the earthquake.
Expressions To Nepal, The Mine gallery, Al Quoz, Dubai from July 8

Saturday

TV Time

The streaming generation might be averse to the regular TV but one of the beauties of cable is the sheer amount of surprises on there. Sometimes it’s not about what you want to watch but what you don’t think you do… that’s why surfing through the channels is still a great way to find great TV. If you fancy staying in this weekend, visit our roundup of what’s on the box.

Double Truth

Zoulikha Boabdella’s exhibition at Gallery Isabelle van den Eynde in Al Quoz is impressive and imposing. Each of the instillations is beautiful, but on closer inspection they’re more than they seem. Hanging blades, a floral mirage of a fighter jet, and stilettos laid out across the floor are just a few of the peculiar yet extremely interesting works. See our interview with the artist here.
Isabelle van den Eynde, Al Quoz, until July 27
