Sheikh Mohammed, the current ruler of Dubai has launched a campaign on the occasion of Ramadan that is an effort towards helping the needy. This 1 billion Meal Endowment Campaign is where sustainable food aid would be provided. This initiative by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum is going to help millions of people that require help.
The 1 Billion Meals Endowment Campaign is going to create a fund so that a resilient and sustainable food aid system would be created. This would provide a safety net for people who are vulnerable and also help in fighting hunger. This 1 Billion Campaign also aims to help the victims that were affected by the worldwide crisis, conflicts, and natural disasters.
UAE’s international efforts to eradicate hunger
As explained by the ruler of Dubai, there are approximately 828 million people around the world who are currently suffering from hunger. This means that every 1 person in 10 is facing the situation. It is everyone’s duty to be present for people who need support. This can be specially done during Ramadan’s month.
Further explaining it, Sheikh Mohammed said that even if the contribution is small, a sustainable initiative can create a huge difference as compared to when a one-time contribution is made.
This entire campaign is a huge message from the people and the UAE toward humanity. He talked about how the moral code of every human compels him to hold a leadership position. This would put global efforts forward to alleviate suffering and hunger everywhere.
This campaign is in alliance with the Global Initiatives of Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum. It has further strengthened the contributions of the UAE’s international efforts to eradicate hunger. This is in accordance with the 2030’s Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
This will also build on the Ramadan campaign that has been going on for a long time. The earlier campaigns included 10 Million Meals and 100 Million Meals. those were also organised under the directness of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the previous years.
Sheikh Mohammed tweeted from his official account –
Addressing brothers and sisters of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed said that according to the country’s annual tradition in combination with the holy month, the nation is happy to make an announcement. The One Billion Meals project would be launched for Ramadan and its goal is to sustainably give out hundreds of millions of meals.
This would be continued for decades so that the endowment project can be fulfilled. It is important to make sure that the charity initiated by the UAE for needy people and continuous goodness is spread.
The ruler of Dubai also said that this would be a lasting contribution that would be more beneficial as compared to an amount that would eventually end. He prayed to Allah and asked him to guide everyone for the betterment of society. Sheikh also wished for Allah to protect the country from evil forces.
Sheikh Mohammed’s office released a statement. It said that this One Billion Meals Endowment Campaign has opened its doors for businessmen, companies, institutions, and individuals so that they can also contribute towards humanitarian work, that too sustainably. They can contribute to the endowment funds that would support social development projects as well as community projects.
Providing hope to the world, Sheikh Mohammed said that this Ramadan campaign would help in solidifying the UAE’s position as one of the most impactful first responders in case there is a time of need or crisis.
Talking about the same, the Dubai leader said that combating hunger through this 1 Billion Meals Campaign is arriving at a time when the entire world is facing conflicts, natural disasters, increased poverty, economic challenges, and much more. This focuses more on the fact that specific initiatives and programs would be beneficial in eradicating the way millions of people are suffering in the world.
As said by Mohammad Al Gergawi added, this new initiative is going to target all the vulnerable communities present in the world.
According to the 2022 report of the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, it was informed that around 9.8% are affected due to hunger. There are 45 million children that are aged below 5 and currently suffer from “wasting”. It is a fatal type of malnutrition. Apart from that, there are 149 million kids that are under 5 and are suffering from developmental issues and stunted growth. This happens due to a lack of important nutrients in their regular diet.
With the last initiative of the 1 Billion Meals Campaign, the organisers achieved the target in under a month. This was because of the contributions by 320,868 donors.
