REVIEW: New menu at Burger & Lobster

Last time we visited Burger & Lobster, there was only three options on the menu – a hamburger, a one-and-a-half-pound lobster, and a six-ounce lobster roll. Deliciously simple. Don’t panic, they’re not messing with a good thing. The new menu sticks to their tried and tested formula of burgers, whole lobsters and lobster rolls, but now they’ve added some interesting flavour combinations.

Expect the likes of the ‘Seven Samurai Roll’ with Asian vegetables and spicy mayo (AED127), and “The Frenchman”, which is a beef patty topped with foie gras, truffle mayo and baby gem lettuce. When we turned up on a weeknight it was busy, proving that word of the simple but tasty food has spread since its opening early this year. With a DIFC address and old school hip hop tunes, it’s the perfect balance of premium casual.

We opted for “The Beast Burger” (AED145), which is aptly named given the tower that arrived. The fresh lobster piled on top of a large 10 ounce piece of beef with tomato, lettuce and onion, was delicious, and the spicy sauce that came with it was so good that we ordered extra. With lobster claws, fries and a lemon butter sauce on the side, it was a mission to finish, but one that we gladly accepted. The lobster’s naturally sweet flavour was matched well with the smooth tang of the sauce. We eat a lot of burgers in the ShortList office, but this is now one of our firm favourites.

A lemon cheesecake was probably an over-ambitious choice for dessert and we didn’t manage to finish it, but the sugar hit of creamy cheesecake and buttery biscuit base makes it a must-try.
