4 great restaurants to get pancakes in the UAE
Baker & Spice
Cooked with blueberries, these fluffy crumpet-like babies offer up fruity, juicy bursts in every mouthful, which makes them more than just okay in our books. If the promise of sweet, exploding blueberries isn’t enough for you, mascarpone and seasonal homemade fruit compote might seal the deal. Order them for dessert, or have them for breakfast. If you’re coming post lunch with someone who talks a lot, get them the Baked Alaska (available at select branches); featuring vanilla sponge, passion fruit chocolate ganache, toasted coconut ice cream and torched meringue, this’ll keep them quiet for a few minutes.

These savoury pancakes are so good we just had to get them in the mix. Ideal for those with a gluten intolerance, they come with three organic scrambled eggs cooked with organic herbs, which is where the word “green” comes in. If you think that sounds boring, we want you to know it’s not at all; this gorgeous eatery has something of a reputation for making very healthy food taste unbelievably delicious. If savoury ain’t your breakfast bag though, they’ve also got Buckwheat Pancakes with organic maple syrup and fresh berries.

Asia De Cuba
So, this Abu Dhabi fusion eatery did away with the word “pancake” on its menu, opting instead to call this vibrant beauty a “hotcake”. And hot it is. Draped with fresh fruits that look like a Caravaggio still life, this stunner comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and a jug of honey on the side. Hello, happiness. On the topic of all-encompassing joy, if you’re dining out with hedonists who enjoy a dash of sweetness in their lives, get the cheeky pineapple lemon tart, an offering of meringue-meets-passion-fruit-sauce-meets-roasted-pineapple-meets-ginger-sorbet that’ll leave everyone wanting more.

For as-freshly-flipped-as-you-get flat cakes, make your way to Tryp by Wyndham’s fabulous live pancake station at Local. Light, fluffy, pretty and very delicious, these beauties are drizzled with powdered sugar and fresh blueberries and look a little bit like something Snow White might bake for the seven dwarves. If you head to Local at Tryp between 6.30am and 2pm on weekends and hand in a recycled glass jar or bottle, you can enjoy a full breakfast buffet for AED75 per person, or pay AED92 if you don’t have a jar. Best of all, kids under ten eat for free.
