4 great fondue dishes to try in Dubai

In Scroll 11 of The Iliad, the epic Ancient Greek poem by Homer about the Trojan War, a serving woman named Hecamede makes a fortifying dish of goat’s milk cheese and barley meal in a heavy bowl studded with handles of golden doves feeding. This is apparently the earliest recorded mention of fondue – the Swiss cheese meal that’s made for sharing.

The story of the cheesy dish includes mountain peasants, a 17th-Century cookbook, and a post-WWI Swiss cheese cartel. Apparently, Schweizer Kaseunion (the Swiss Cheese Union) punted the “fondue creates a good mood” slogan so hard they’re the reason the sets were on every Western bride-to-be’s gift list..

Today, fondue (from the French fonder, “to melt”) refers to many varieties, including the fondue bourguignonne (meat in broth or oil) and dessert versions. Gather the troops and make epic memories of your own with these UAE venues.

If all this fondue talk has you craving the cheesy experience right now, this place may be able to accommodate tonight, and it has a great deal for guests to enjoy. Each evening, they offer a three-hour unlimited fondue (and grape) in their elegant setting adorned with twinkly candlelights. Give the meat and cheese buffet a go on Wednesdays, too.

If you know a thing or two about fondue, you’ll approve of Publique’s delicious offering, as the cheese sauce is made in the traditional manner – a creamy blend of Comté, Beaufort and gruyère cheese. Feeling a bit adventurous? Try the Tomato, Morel or Truffle fondue for a bit of a change. There’s even a chocolate fondue on offer here.

You can dip juicy strawberries and toasted marshmallows into a heavenly chocolate sauce. Work up to it with the Grilled Australian Lamb Chops.
