REVIEW: The Hive brunch
Talk to anyone that’s ever been to the brunch at The Hive before and the first thing you’ll hear from their mouths is “party”. There are many pretenders to the throne when it comes to party brunches, but The Hive has been consistently knocking it out of the park for years now. But as the competition heats up, just how does it fare these days? In short: very well.
We’ receive our arm bands upon arrival and make our way to the upper deck where the party vibes have already kicked in. A live band set the tone with their rendition of chart toppers as dancers, acrobats and stiltwalkers bring an upbeat energy to the room.
The venue is split into sections; the upper deck is where the party’s at, the terrace is prime seating during cooler climes, and the lower area, that’s packed with live cooking stations, is far more sedate.
We kicked our feast off with a side of cold cut meats and a mix of salads that includes Middle Eastern classics such as fattoush and tabbouleh. We follow this up with succulent roast beef and a host of grilled vegetables. As we’re determined to sample as many dishes as possible before cranking out our dance moves, we eat our way through some chicken curry and daal, hamour and a selection of cheeses – each element providing great tastes all round.
As we polish off our chocolate mousse dessert, the tables around us make way for a instant dancefloor. Within minutes the entire area is packed with people dancing to DJ Tim Cheddar’s mix of floor-filling tunes. There are even a few rounds of a conga line to join in with as the brunch swings seamlessly into an all-out party. The likes of which sees Friday brunchers from all across the city heading up to Le Méridien and The Hive for an evening of buzzing entertainment.
