REVIEW: Firelake Grill Brunch
It’s one of the newest brunches on the block, but the Backyard Brunch at Firelake Grill is almost certainly going to become a hit and bring in a loyal crowd. As the temperature has dropped, we sit outside on the enormous terrace area with Burj Khalifa standing in the distance and the Dubai Creek lapping at the shores below us. As soon as we step foot outside, we’re hit with the smoky goodness coming from barbecue station. Obviously, we get a seat close by so our frequent trips back and forth from the grill are minimised. The brunch is split into two specific ways to indulge. You can either sit and order smaller plates direct to your table – house-smoked salmon, roasted eggplant on flatbread and Omaha steak and eggs – or you can grab your cold meats, salads and more from the buffet located indoors. And, of course, there’s the grill that’s serving up chicken and beef sausages, brisket and more. The choice is yours. As the musical duo put their country and Western spin on a number of modern pop classics, we order Huevos Rancheros, crispy chicken taquitos (tortilla wrapped pulled chicken) and a spicy chorizo flatbread. It’s all passed through the grill and comes with the smoked goodness that results in repeat orders of these small yet potent plates. It’s not long before the irresistible aromas of the grill in the corner pull us in. We pile our plates with a bit of everything, but make extra space for slice after slice of brisket. The sausages, which are huge, don’t despite on the flavour front. However, it’s the brisket that’s the star of the show. Paired with a selection of fresh salad from the buffet and an incredibly satisfying mac ‘n’ cheese, the brisket goes down a storm. Sure, it’s just getting started, but this Backyard Brunch already has us fired up for a return visit.
Tucked away on one of the many stations is a grill that’s home to some of the best brisket around. The meat is smoked until it’s perfectly tender and breaks into delicious bite-size pieces with the minimum of effort. Give it a little dip into the smoky BBQ sauce for a real taste of the Mid-West US cuisine.
