Kishmish restaurant has the hearty Afghan fare you never knew you needed
You should be taking more notice of the fare from Afghanistan. Dubai is home to pretty much every international cuisine from across the planet, but the often overlooked Afghan dishes certainly deserve your attention.
Kishmish is one such place to add to your diary. The Al Safa restaurant serves up gourmet takes on traditional cuisine such as Mantu (lamb stuffed dumplings with lentil, vegetables and yoghurt), Chapli Kabab (minced beef patti with chutney) and on the sweet side of things, Afghan Halwa, which is sweet buttery flour with cardamom and crushed almonds.
What we’re hot for though, is the range of soul-warming stews that they cook up. Whether it’s potato, okra or chicken (see right), these are sure to deliver that comfort food zen that’s perfect for the cooler weather.
Take the korma chalou (pictured first). For AED80, you're served a chicken stew still on a bed of apricots and lentils, presented with a delicious side of cumin rice. Or the meatballs (pictured second) which are also AED80, and consists of slow cooked beef meatballs in a rich tomato gravy. We might just order both.
