The Hide brunch review: A new Thursday night brunch arrives from the US meatery
The Hide’s new Thursday night offering is full of the meatery’s famous succulent cuts. Brisket, burgers and steaks are all in order along with the type of hearty sides like mac ‘n’ cheese and polenta cake – it’s a line-up that commands your attention.
But, and we mean this in the best way possible, you’re likely to enter a food coma with the size of the portions here. It’s all about pace, of course, but the temptation to just pile your plate high every visit is very real. Why does this matter? Well, considering you have four and half hours to enjoy it, you might be asleep after the first half hour.
Add in the dulcet tones of the Stetson-wearing live duo cranking out classic tunes from the likes of Johnny Cash, you’ve got a recipe for an early night. With this in mind, we navigate the brunch carefully.
The mini-burgers are a must – each individual patty has been lovingly crafted and is packed full of flavour. We side-step the huge slab of steaks that the chefs cook up, to your preference, as you stand and watch the meaty delight.
It’s the brisket we’re interested in. The smoked beef is crusted with a light char that when chopped up makes for that barbecue favourite, burnt ends. We’re in love with the juicy brisket that offers a flavourful mouthful on every single bite. And paired with that aforementioned slice of polenta cake and some corn on the cob, it really is a potent plate.
We combat the slumber with a trip to the dessert counter, which features tiny donuts and a number of ice-cream topped treats. Thanks to a combination of a stunning terrace setting, great music and incredibly moreish foods, The Hide’s BBQ Nights is definitely worth your time. But maybe take your pyjamas with you.
You’re going to need that sugar fix if you’re going to last the course at this brunch. Thankfully, The Hide pulls together a number of its mouthwatering desserts from its main full menu and dishes them out in a bite-sized fashion. Our pick? Anything with the fresh ice-cream on it should do the trick.
