The Restaurant at Address Downtown's Britannia Brunch review: Fridays made up of British classics and Burj Khalifa views

White table clothes, plush cushioned chairs, dark wooden floors and ceiling high windows showcase an incredible panoramic view of the Burj Khalifa – the Britannia Brunch is the perfect setting for a selfie.

We’ve been looking forward to some British grub all week and the menu here doesn’t disappoint. We head to the buffet to start.

A selection of cheeses, live cooking stations making pancakes and waffles to order, and oysters and omani lobsters are sat in ice at the raw bar. Big fresh bowls of salad are prepared in front of us while a selection of British favourites awaits.

Roast lamb, sausage toad and the creamiest scrambled eggs and smoked salmon you’ve ever tasted. We find a drinks trolley in the corner of the restaurant making bespoke mixes and jugs of a British summer drink are sent to our table.

We suddenly regret the five mini sausage toads we ate as our mains arrive. The cottage pie is fantastic. Melted cheese lays atop creamy mashed potato that’s covering the mouthwatering beef that’s soaked in a thick gravy.

Sadly, our expectations for the Yorkshire pudding couldn’t be matched by the reality of them. The fluffy batter of a proper Yorkshire pud is replaced with a slightly charred and crunchy number that can’t be saved even by the lashings of gravy we pour over.

But elsewhere, the menu is full of winning dishes such as the full roast chicken and the sliced beef. Paired with more mashed potatoes and the expertly cooked seasonal veggies, these two British staples were brilliant. The salmon en croûte, with its buttery pastry and creamy sauce, is also a delight.

It’s a great brunch to feast on with family and friends, but just be careful not to fill up on all those sausage toads before the mains arrive.

Don’t miss
Dessert. Or should we say “desserts”? Eton Mess, apple crumble, crème brûlée, sticky toffee pudding, lemon meringue and ice cream are all present and correct. It’s such a hard choice to pick a favourite from the selection, but at least you’re guaranteed to have a superstar dessert with whatever you choose.
