As soon as we heard that Rockfish had a new menu we knew we had to return, not only for the fresh seafood and indulgent sides, but also for another juniper trolley experience. On our previous visit, we hit the trolley hard, and seated at the table our waiter asks if we would like to start with a mixed juniper drink. Obviously it’s a yes and the mixologist expertly stuffs grapefruit, berries and coriander into a huge glass, perfect as a pre-dinner drink or a light snack.
Off to a great start and browsing the new menu we spot some classic dishes, ordering starters of Calamari Fritti and a Burrata and tomato salad to share. The juicy rings of squid, lightly battered and served with a spicy mayo dip, are delicious, while the burrata is creamy with mixed fresh tomatoes in a vinegar dressing, surprisingly refreshing and light.
For mains we order the sea bass and wagyu beef rib-eye with a side of mash potato. The wagyu beef is perfectly cooked and the flavour is intense, served with grilled mushrooms and a side of creamy mash. Regretting not sharing, one of us is full of envy as we look down at our sad sea bass floating in a foam pool. However, cutting into the fish it falls apart in big meaty flakes with a crisp skin to give some bite. Served with grilled artichoke and hidden in a lemon emulsion, we’re sorry we ever doubted this fishy dish which is light, salty and works well with the citrus notes.
Stuffed, (probably the juniper mixed snack that tipped us over the edge, love those), but massive fans of dessert, we order the caramelised apple tart and the hazelnut parfait. Well aware we say this often, but we’ve found our favourite dessert in Dubai. The thin baked puff pastry is buttery and crisp while the apple slices are sweet, coated in lashing of thick caramel and topped off with vanilla ice cream, truly amazing. The hazelnut parfait is too sickly, though, with way too many chocolate elements on one plate.
Rockfish never disappoints and is perfect for a fun date night. A busy restaurant serving quality food in a beautiful location overlooking the Burj Al Arab. We’ll see you near the trolley.
