Pai Thai hosting splashtastic ten-day Songkran extravaganza

If you’re getting ready to get soaked and celebrate Thailand’s huge Songkran festival this year, no need to hop on a plane, just head on over to Pai Thai.

Madinat Jumeirah’s authentic Thai restaurant is hosting a very special ten-day event to mark the Thai New Year, featuring a three-course sharing set menu and traditional waterborne Thai entertainment for AED295.

Kicking off today (Wednesday April 10), and running until Saturday April 20, the whole experience starts with an abra trip through the Madinat Jumeirah waterways to the venue. Lovely.

In true Songkran tradition, guests can take part in a ceremony before beginning the feast, while the restaurant itself will be transformed with festival lighting and decorations to mark the occasion.

After all that, let the eating commence. Designed by celebrated chef, Aphichat Amatmontri, Pai Thai will start guests off with some true Thai classics including laab pla, a spicy minced seabass fish salad; gai hor bai toey, crispy marinated chicken in pandan leaf with garlic and sweet soya sauce and chor muang sai phak with mixed vegetable dumplings.

As for mains? Songkran festive menu includes special dishes with a mix of prawns, salmon, beef and asparagus Thai specials, accompanied by jasmine rice.

The restaurant has even whipped up two exclusive dishes just for the event, including pla phad passion fruit, a wok-fried crispy salmon which is cooked with garlic, capsicum, cashew nuts, Thai broccoli, chili and Thai basil, served in a passion fruit sauce.

There’s also the nuea phad kra pao – which offers guests the chance to try top-of-the-range wok-fried wagyu beef, cooked with long beans, garlic and hot basil, served in an oyster sauce.

Finish off on a sweet note with a classic favourite – tjhe kao niew ma muang, which translates into a sumptuous mouthful of sweet sticky rice, ripe mango, mochi ice-cream, coconut syrup and sesame seeds.

It wouldn’t be Songkran without some splashtastic entertainment, so guests can also expect live entertainment accompanied by resident traditional dancer, Wanthakan.
