Brunch review: STK JBR

Daytime party people and meat-lovers rejoice, this one’s for you

By now, most people know what to expect when heading to one of the two STK restaurants in Dubai. Whether it’s the Downtown branch or the one in JBR, which we’re visiting, a slick and stylish setting combines with an up-for-it party crowd to ensure a great time is had by all.

There are few more stylish settings in which to enjoy brunch, it must be said, and with the majority in attendance dressed in their Sunday (or Friday) best, it’s pretty safe to assume it’s going to be a lively one.

The tunes, spun by a DJ neatly positioned between the bar and elevated restaurant areas, are loud and uplifting, while every so often an in-house singer takes hold of the mic and serenades the crowd. This is undoubtedly what’s known as the “party brunch”.

The menu allows diners to choose unlimited starters from a menu that includes guaranteed crowd-pleasers such as beef sliders (absolutely superb) and steak tartare.  And they genuinely are unlimited, as our waitress will undoubtedly testify. A magnificent main of fillet steak is accompanied by an abundance of sides, including mac ‘n’ cheese and Parmesan fries (very carb-heavy, but who cares?) but the food, though excellent, is overshadowed by the entertainment. The lights go out midway through service, the music is cranked up a notch and dancers, dressed in dark uniforms covered in bright lights, strut their stuff in between tables while some diners attempt to capture the action on their phones. It’s still early in the day, but all sense of time is lost in STK due to the darkness,  party vibe and free-flowing beverages. For all we know, it could be midnight, but we’re certainly not complaining.

Put simply, if you’re looking for a good time and a way to kick off the weekend’s activities in lively fashion, you won’t be disappointed.

Don’t miss
If you still have room after getting stuck into the starters and main, the desserts are definitely worth sampling. The beauty is, the selection is made up of miniature cheesecakes – New York and chocolate – as well as a sharing plate of crème brûlée, which is probably the best version of the dish we’ve ever tasted. High praise.
