Cinema Akil hosts Cinemajlis iftar
Looking for an alternative iftar this season? Cinema Akil has just the ticket for May.
Starting on Friday May 10, guests will be treated to casual South Asian cuisine and screenings of award-winning Arab films every night.
Guests will first break their fast, followed by a movie at 9pm and 11pm on weekdays as well as pre-iftar screenings at weekends.
Cinemajlis will also host games and talks, as well as open mic event Blank Space.
As for the movies, expect screenings such as Mohamed Al-Daradji’s The Journey, along with Stefanie Brockhaus’s The Poetess, a documentary film on Saudi poet Reem Hilal.
There’s also Ahmad Abdallah’s Ext. Night, which premiered at the 2018 TIFF Contemporary World Cinema section, along with a special series of shorts in collaboration with Reel Palestine film festival. Last but not least, there’s the UAE release of Naila and the Uprising, a documentary film by Julia Bacha which first screened during Reel Palestine in January.
If you still haven’t seen Marvel’s massive Avengers: Endgame, make sure to see our spoiler-free review before you watch it. Hint: it’s very good.
