Taking pics of your shawarma on Instagram? You're not alone
If you're the kind of person who has to take a hundred pictures before tucking into your food then this could be for you.
Snapping away for the Insta-likes is now commonplace, and it's not just reserved for high-end dining.
No, the humble shawarma is the most-tagged Middle Eastern dish in the world in the social media site, according to food box firm Gousto.
The classic dish will only set you back around Dhs10 (at the most) so perhaps it's no surprise that there are so many of them being photographed.
The study has put the wrap top in the region, too, while pizza takes overall the top spot globally – followed closely by hamburgers, sushi and steak.
Perhaps not surprisingly, in the wider Asian continent, it is the eight most tagged food, coming up short against the likes of sushi, kimchi and pad Thai.
So next time you're munching on a shawarma, remember to stop and take a snap.
