Three fantastic restaurants to try this week in Dubai

Netsu
The suave Japanese steakhouse at the Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah is one of those restaurants you go to for a special night out, not just because of its lavish, Japanese-inspired art and décor, but also because of its prices. You’ll be spending a pretty dirham on a majority of the menu, with some of the more expensive dishes such as the “Luxury Rice” costing well over AED1,000. Pricey, but the whole experience does it justice.

Tasca by Jose Avillez
Foie gras that tastes sweet, tender chicken with better texture than a steak, wagyu tartare in an ice cream cone – what in the world has Tasca done to these fine dining favourites? Believe it or not, this Michelin-star restaurant from José Avillez makes each dish exude creativity and excitement, and we can’t get enough of the flavour-packed bites.

Distillery
It isn’t uncommon for a new venue to pop up in Dubai. In fact, at times it’s like there’s a tidal wave of them coming in at the same time, throwing terminology such as ‘authentic’ or ‘contemporary’ at us. How good are they, though? Questionable, but then we find a place like Distillery that labels itself as a ‘hipster late-night bar and gastropub’, and actually delivers.

Lengthy bar with brass-themed furnishings, high-stools surrounding big black barrels masked as tables, comfy brown leather couches for dining – throw in a brick wall painting and yeah, they’ve nailed the hipster part.
