Fridays can be a tough day to navigate. Sometimes, despite the best will and all the plan-making in the word, you can’t drag yourself out of bed, weary after a hard week at work. But then, 1pm wake up done and energy regained, you don’t want to wait until the evening to have a pint with your mates. And that, brunchers, is where Le Petit Belge comes in.
Kicking off at a lie-in-friendly 5pm (sounds good to us), The Late Brunch is the ideal way to spend a chilled Friday evening.
The popular Belgian bar in JLT is low-key and casual, so you’ll not need to throw on your fanciest threads either, jeans and trainers will do just fine. The vibe is relaxed, friendly and upbeat – with a live DJ spinning some tunes as the evening goes on.
Food-wise the brunch is made up of bar bites, so don’t expect a full-on foodie feast, however, it’s decent, filling grub. First out of the kitchen is a bowl of creamy, chopped mushrooms to smother on thin, crispy pieces of toast, alongside some petite portions of beef tartare. This is followed
up by a bar bite platter – think calamari, cheese balls, chicken wings, Flemish beef stew and pot of mussels.
While none of it is remarkable, it’s tasty enough and hits the spot – especially at the bargain price of AED199 including house drinks. The wings are decent, the calamari isn’t stringy and the mussels – as you’d hope from a Belgian restaurant – are fresh, tasty and swimming in a creamy, garlicky sauce. Lovely.
As the evening goes on the vibe – and noise levels – pick up and there’s a fun atmosphere, and the time zips by. And when 8pm rolls around the choice is yours, continue at the bar, head back to the sofa to catch up with Netflix or take the party elsewhere, after all the night is young.

Fan of all things cheese? Load up on the Belgian cheese croquettes. Small, perfectly formed orbs that are crispy on the outside and deliciously gooey in the centre. Dip them in the sticky pear dipping sauce for a lip-smackingly moreish bar bite. Quite simply, we couldn’t get enough of them, and if you want to ensure your night is a hit, get involved.
